Yeah we usually take the wagon for family trips, but have definitely been out for some good drives with wife and baby in the m3. It’s not too bad but could only do an overnighter. This was a boys golf trip over there though. I gotta say, Victoria sure is a beautiful city architecturally compared to vancouver.

Ahh very nice spec... the year that got the LSD and beat the E92 M3 around the Nurburgring laptime....

There is a client of mine that has a white 12 ISF, she is not a car person at all, she got it because the sales upsold it to her when she wanted a IS350. In her words the IS350 needed to wait white the ISF was on the lot...

I always told her that if she ever sells, give me a call first I want first dibs lol

Nice upsell. I bet there are no purchase regrets with her now. These cars are beauty, especially the later years.

2010 got the LSD. 2011 was the big refresh year. 2012 added 0.5" width to the wheels all around and a different finish along with an updated steering ECU. 2013 mirrored 2012 iirc. And the 2014's are true unicorns with ultra low production numbers, like 59 or something, and added alcantara door cards and centre console, cf lip spoiler, radar cruise and a few other nerd items. Most that pop up for sale are 2008/09.

Busted! Hahaha. Closeted Geo surveyor.

Who knew that drive would be where I get to clear my headspace for a few hours. The bonus is even with liberal WOT and heavy use of brakes, the engine still gets around 7L/100km.

My usual driving around town is around that while besting to 6.3L/100. Pure highway road trip mode is even thriftier.

Note to any Duffey storm troopers, there are more dips in the road going back home southbound than north. Due to the edge of the road naturally eroding and moving, that side of the road gets the damage first. Be ready for lots of full compression suspension use.

Evening gents, been a while!

Maserati's gone, replaced it with this old man's sled for the summer. Im glad it carries over a lot of the things i like about the old mazzy. NA v8, increible exhaust note and sexy wide fenders.
Also never had a car delievered with only 6kms on it.. by the time i remembered to take a shot, it was already 11kms. Seems incredibly low, never had a new car with only 6km on it.

How was your Maserati ownership? Quattroporte prices seems to have bottomed out. :considered: still want to try one

Maz does sound better. One of the greatest sounding cars ever made imo. But this isn’t too bad, the loud ass crack during downshift sounds like a rifle shot.

Still miss my maz. Ownership was great but not great. I mean I had her since new and every year it was 1.5-4k of standard maintenance. Biggest non standard maintenance cost me 26k for engine mounts, valve covers, coolant hoses, power steering, and some misc other crap that I don’t recall. This is all done at Vancouver Ferrari maserati so I’m sure if you go third party it’ll be cheaper.

Gotta say, they nailed it with the LC coupe / roadster - the car is essentially a Japanese Aston Martin.

But of course its a Lexus - well built, dependable and won't tank in value like an Aston.

I actually cross shopped the LC with the new Vantage. Ultimately didnt buy it because its 1) 100k more than the LC, 2) wouldnt be able to deliever before sept and thus 37% tax in total!! 3) cheap interior with a tacked on small 6 inch display and chintsy plastic buttons everywhere

Aston looks better though... especially from the rear. But looking at the options list, it was riduculious how they nickle and dime you for everything.

I got my DL when i was 16 and promptly tried racing with this sentra (epic fail). Plus the color!!! look at the friggin color man.

Houses went from 400k to 2.5m. A crappy TH will run you 700-800 now. That's a 2k mort payment every month before you even turn the lights on. If you make 100k, that eats up half your monthly income before you even think about eating. Let's not even think about Strata fees and $2.22 gas.

here's how i did it:

- grew up east side, dirt poor. drove a sentra XE
- Took huge 50k student loan. Worked 2 jobs while doing useless degree.
- Invested said student loan into GM stock before bailout (i knew they were gonna get bailed out, how can they let GM fail?)
- Took the earnings from that stock play to pay off my student loan and down payment on house (it was only 500k in 2008 for our place in richmond)
- Worked a whole bunch of shit jobs, sold computer parts at ANITEC computers for 6 bucks an hour, worked as a teller at the bank, etc
- I eventually landed a job as a conductor then worked up my way up. then hopped over to the ports
- CN/CP still hiring conductors today.

This is how. Parents ‘gifting’ hundreds of thousands of dollars.

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/vancouver-homebuyer-down-payments-parents-gifting

Also if you look at stats Canada, there are more people in Richmond making over 100k a year than there is people making between 60-70k a year

I honestly think if someone let me use their time machine to go back when houses were $500k, all my problems would disappear.

That same house is now 2M+. Let's call a spade a spade, you can work 3 jobs and and eat grass and no one in their 30's can pull that kind of payment off unless you're big dick doctor/lawyer.

That 500k house is now a 20% down-payment lol. No one out saving/working 10 jobs can pull that off anymore, the game and rules have changed.

Same. Very sad.

Rewind time 20-30 years, if you made 100k, you're on "easy" (not that you don't have to work hard) street when houses were 500k. Hell, buy yourself a 911.

Today, using the same ratios, you need to make 500k.

That's not just a good job, that's like...Wonka Bar Golden Ticket job. You have to be the conductor of 3 trains at once kind of job.

Opportunities do show themselves, but when you can hardly breath, you're must less likly to take these huge leaps of faith without a safety net of some sort.

Anyways, going to get my daily Mc.Double.

Haha the GM bailout, remember when Ford went to the meeting with them even though they weren't getting bailed out, but all the moron investors couldn't tell the difference and Ford's stock went down to like $1... they were even giving stock away with car purchases in the USA at one point... I bought in hard with what I had at the time and it went up to $16... but I wasn't crazy enough to take out a loan. Wish I had been lol...

Friend of mine bought in Richmond close to that new Walmart back in 2016-2017 for a 2 bedroom condo at 350k. His place is worth 800k now. 2016\17 wasn’t that long ago.

Opportunities are out there, you just gotta keep your eyes open. Although I do see your point about the RE market today. New west still has some relative good deals. Another friend of mine bought in Hope 2018 for 380k, sold last year for 650k.

If you wanna beat the rat race you gotta make a few big plays. The guy who moved to hope works for CP in coquitlam. Yet he’s willing to the grind every day just to get ahead.

I’m not saying you don’t grind. I’m just saying that depending on how much you are willing to sacrifice there are still opportunities out there. You just need to know when to strike. Look at air Canada stock right now. In the toilet. Do you really think it won’t bounce back after this pandemic is over ? I got a lot of money in AC right now.

I'm in my 30s, just bought a house last year, and we have a kid.

Help from the parents made a difference, but if not we would probably still be in a duplex right now because when we were buying, a largish duplex could be had in Burnaby for about 1.5m vs 2m for a house.

I'm a little younger than badhobz so if I started earlier I might have gotten a house without help. I've done my fare share of dumb shit but I didn't spend real big money on a car until I bought my M3.

Got back from CCA_Daves “Spring Thaw” yesterday. 1750km from my house…. Probably half of the K I’ve put on the thing since I bought it 7-8 years ago.

Day one, manifold stud pulled out of the head. A local lent his garage and was able to heli-coil is that evening.

Day 2: no drama
Day 3: Cam sensor failed, managed to rework the ECU to run without it to finish the event. Clutch started to sound funny.
Day 4: by the time I got home, I could barely get it into gear and noises getting worse.

First Photo at the needles Ferry, second washed when I got home from the salt. Snow rain and sunshine, all in one weekend. Was a riot.

A TH at $800K, 20% downpayment is like $2,555/month @ 1.49% and $3,367 4%. We'll likely hit $4,000/month at 6% before we ever see sub 2% again.

There's not many TH's in $800K in Vancouver to my knowledge.

The trick is everyone who actually did it without parents are making over $100K in the mid 20's and are closer to $130 - 300K in their 30's. Mix of salary, self contract work, investment income. They're also the top performers in their careers with all the licensing, certs and designations. I think the people you might be comparing to are more likely to have had help from their parents or bought pre-2016. In those cases, you probably need to upgrade your parents because they ain't giving you enough help FeelsBadMan

We live in a time when making $100k puts in you working class purgatory lol

The more you think you save towards RE, the wider the gap becomes. I've been living in my current place for 3 years (renting). My rent back then was considered high and now it's considered cheap. It's amazing how perspective skews so quickly :lol

Just got a new car since the used market was bonkers last year when someone totaled the RSX-S. I'd say it's equally as fun as the S2000. It's manual, active exhaust and the seats glow up.

Priorities! I’ve seen numerous rich dudes in Richmond drive Ferraris while still living in a 1 bedroom - 2 bedroom condo near the oval. Sometimes just yolo it.

I'm so close to becoming a DINK and just yoloing in a condo forever. To move to a detached, I have to make $350 - 500K a year to qualify + save heavily for a down then pay $8 - 10K mortgage for 25 years lol. Lets just finance a Ferrari for $3k/mo instead, probably more happy.

Badhobz

The ferrari is good on paper.... you think you'll be happy

BUT

you wont be happy when you service the F car (after the 8 year free maintenance) or pay for the insurance, or parking it, or really even driving it as any F car over 10,000kms is considered high mileage. Plus they'll still depreciate and eventually go down to the 200k-300k range from the 450k that you paid for it.

If you have to pay for the F car monthly, i dont think you'll seriously enjoy it as you'll be too nervous to even drive it anywhere. its the MOFO's who pay for it by cash, drive everyday and into the ground, and not give a hoot. Thats the level of $$$ you need to be happy with ferrari ownership.

Oh and the wait list for an F8 tributo is ~2 years right now. Roma's orders are 1 year ish, and the superfast is superlong wait as well.

I thought about it.... then i recall my maserati experience and i just :QQ: better off with my toyota

I have no idea how ppl in their 30's pull it off anymore.

Houses went from 400k to 2.5m. A crappy TH will run you 700-800 now. That's a 2k mort payment every month before you even turn the lights on. If you make 100k, that eats up half your monthly income before you even think about eating. Let's not even think about Strata fees and $2.22 gas.

Yet everyone I work with has a 50k car. Depressing af.

Well, people aren't buying houses on their own anymore - a property that is larger than a 1-bedroom/studio requires two incomes nowadays.

Everything these days is costed to monthly payments. A 50K car is not that expensive if leased or if financed over 7/8 years (which is crazy). It's the same with homes - the majority of households are looking at monthly costs.

Anyway, I officially hit mid-life this year. After putting 2 kids through daycare, doing a Masters, and upgrading to our long-term home during the pandemic, I figured it was time to get back into the hobby, so I picked up one of these a few weeks ago:

Shops in the GTA stopped selling Federal due to increased costs and manufacturing/supply chain delays. I picked up a set of Federal Evoluzion ST-1s for pennies on the dollar (clearance price) and they've held up well over the past few years, including some DE days. By no means am I a good driver (still a noob) but I got laughed at and ridiculed by some Pcar funboiz until I either kept up with them or outpaced them in. Instructors were even impressed.

These tires will probably will be good for another 2 years given how little I drive. I believe 1010Tires may be the only shop that might (emphasis on might) still carry or be willing to order them in, but I could be wrong. It took a while for them to be broken in and for them to really perform well. Having said that, and like westopher, I wouldn't buy them again. :awwyeah:

My E46 has latch anchors on the bottom of each back rest and a top anchor underneath the tonneau cover. The bottom anchors are not labelled, but if you feel in between the seat cushion and the back rest, you will find them. I had to partially close the top to get access to the top anchor. Once I had the tonneau cover lifted, I slid the top anchor strap underneath the headrest and attached it to the metal anchor. The metal anchor also doesn't have a label, like a modern car, but you'll see it once you have the tonneau cover lifted.

Because of the angle of the vert's seats, I had to slip a pool noodle underneath the base of the car seat to ensure that the base was level.

A 2-seater would have saved me more space in the garage, but in the end, the convenience of a usable backseat in my mind outweighed any of the handling, or image benefits of having a 2-seater.

Internal combustion engines and human-driven cars are endangered and the next generation will probably look back at the elder millennials (like me) in the same manner as millennials look at boomers - entitled, self-centred, planet-destroying ogres. What motivated me (aside some thoughts about my own mortality) was the opportunity to give my kids some carefree memories because they'll be living in a pretty different world than the one we know today as adults.

LOL Yes I'm a Certified Passenger Safety Technician so I check car seats for their installs and safe of use.

Best way to know if your car seat is installed properly. If the seat moves side to side across the belt path more than 1" with your non-primary hand it's not installed properly.

Make sure to always check the vehicle owners manual and car seat owners manual. Some seat will not allow you to put anything under the seat for a proper level install.

For forward car seat installs they're generally quite straight forward, seat belt is used to tie the car seat down. when tightening the straps push the seat down and back towards the base and backrest of the seat. once the seatbelt is installed and tightened install upper anchor (needed in Canada) tighten the upper anchor so that it's snug but doesn't pull the seat up.

If you need a hand with the install or a check, send me a PM we can work out a time and I can come take a look.

Also nay. The one is really coming into its own as a cool looking car. I’ve always liked them, but they are aging so well, and roof racks that aren’t doing anything at the time certainly don’t do anything for the aesthetics.

I know nothing about them but it sure felt dated compared to the Sonata I had last time. I don't actually care about most of the tech stuff it didn't have but no Android Auto meant I just had to listen to directions without a map, which was a bit annoying.

That was in the heart of Jasper National Park here:
https://goo.gl/maps/6jWtz9zviVhRL4Sf9

It’s so picturesque. There are visible wild animals 75% of the time I pass through Jasper, from big horn sheep, ram, moose, bear, elk, deer, etc… I’ve been 10 feet away from a herd of big horn sheep busy eating grass in awww of their size and winter coat. We live in a beautiful country! It’s sucks that it costs a lot to explore nowadays but when you can…stop, live in the moment and take it all in.

There are many tempting spots. This car's 100-200 is rather silly at times so keeping discipline is paramount. The only time I don't is if I have a mission to get pass 4 to 5 trucks all at once with a super clear view of what's in front, then this mundane grocery getting sedan turns into a German missile.

I've driven an E46 325i to Whistler before the Olympic highway. It is FOR SURE a momentum car. Getting up to high-speed you have to be patient but once you're there it's just point and shoot. It's a happy chassis to change direction quickly even at high-speed.

How'd you decide to go to a mini instead of a CTR?
Might not be the long answer anyone's looking for but it's been asked before and I already answered it elsewhere so I'll just drop it here lol

My sister has an F56 Cooper so I know how these cars drive, but the MINI SE makes it that much more fun with the instant torque. I decided to get into the SE for a few reasons. Main reason being that my commute to work is more or less a straight road mostly between Richmond/Downtown/Metrotown. so the CTR did not feel that engaging/fun. I'm sure the car is amazing on the track as I've heard from many, but I don't have the time to track the car, so I felt the CTR was a little bit of an overkill to be a daily in my situation.

I tried to go out for as many spirited drives as I could under my ownership, but between being busy with work, and the gas price going up, I felt the amount of straight-lined miles I put on car as a daily is not what the car is made for.

Another reason being that although I just got the CTR in April 2021, I was made aware that many were getting great offers from dealerships for their cars last Summer/Fall so I looked into what I could get, because these offers would allow me to essentially drive the car for free for the time I owned it.

Everyone is looking at going EV these days so I looked into a few EV options and found the SE to be among the cheapest and most fun, so it was a no brainer for me to get into one. Along with the rebates available + gas savings, the SE is a lot easier on the wallet and made my choice to get one easy as well.

Driving wise the MINI's goal was never to be the best handling car, but instead I feel it aims to be a fun car with big personality inside and out, and still be able to keep up with the handling of other hot hatches.

Of course at seven, eight, nine tenths, the Type-R is objectively the better handling car with an LSD pulling you out of a corner when you continue to put the foot on the throttle, but driving around city speeds, you don't get to appreciate that as much. And also with its looks, a cop pulled a U-turn and pulled me over doing 67/68 on quieter Granville St. I personally feel cops wouldn't bat an eye at a MINI doing those speeds making 0 noise. Overall, I feel the SE gives me more of a thrill in the city and you can zip around traffic much easier with its smaller footprint.

At the same time, the MINI's also got creature comfort features like wireless CarPlay, App controlled remote locking/unlocking, heated seats AND steering wheel, and in traffic it's also got Active Cruise Control which will continue to work in stop and go traffic (when I'm lazy or tired, the computer is more efficient on the battery than me on the pedal and it's a lot less stressful not needing to concentrate on modulating between brake/throttle)

I still have the E46 M3 when I feel the need to go out for a drive. It also makes taking the M3 out more eventful because the MINI is that much more different to the M3 than the CTR was, so I'm liking it quite a bit so far in the month of ownership.

Wow, didn't know the mini had an EV car as well. If I knew I might've considered it for a new daily. I was looking at an EV daily as well but the Ioniq 5 had such a long wait list and everything else seemed meh. The mini is priced really well too at $44K after rebates and taxes?

I finally took the Jeep out for a proper test run with a couple friends. They nearly completely destroyed a driveshaft, I had a briefly flakey oil pressure sensor and noisy accessory belt (probably from all the puddles), and I found out my alternator whines when I turn the roof lights on at idle so overall a good day.

Those are valid concerns, to clarify when we inspected the driveshaft that my buddy fried the boot was long gone so that joint was going to fail soon no matter what. I've never broken anything offroad but part of why I switched to a cheap WJ was because I didn't want to have to worry about it. This whole Jeep cost me less than just a replacement transfer case for my old one.

Being stranded can be avoided by traveling with another vehicle and always telling someone where you're going and when you should be back. I used Gaia GPS on my phone to log the route so I could always backtrack, we took it fairly easy but because we were exploring random offshoots we were never more than maybe 5km from a nice FSR or 10km from the pavement which isn't a terrible walk. Funny enough we did pass a broken down side by side on the first trail and then a little while later passed a side by side going the other way and they asked if we'd seen the broken one because they were looking for it :lol

Velar sucks. I didn't even like driving the SVR. Instead of being more like a Jr. Range Rover Sport, it ended up more like a Sr. Evoque.

The Sport V8 is still best. Too bad the next gen will move to a turbo V8. The outgoing Supercharged motor made some great noises.

Fun car. A couple of missteps in the interior. Wish it had some more personality though.

IMO, ever since the MkV GTI, the defining personality of the GTI / Golf R is that it is such a good all-rounder car that it feels like it doesn't have any distinguishing personality. Think on that for a moment, and you see the car under a new light.

I find with my MK7 R with the DSG, it reminds me alot of a 911 turbo - comfortable, quick enough, practical and you can use it everyday. It does feel a bit tame at times, but those are the days you'd appreciate it when its cruising along gently after a long day at work, without beating you up. Car is also total incognito, as people just think its a regular Golf.

Probably the most well rounded, most swiss army knife like car i've owned in a long time.

How's the manual on your R? I heard the manual R isn't the greatest shift feeling in the world... or clutch is kinda poppy?

Did you ever get to try the Veloster N vs Golf R?

I really wanted the Golf R for many factors but once I drove it for an hour. It was fast, comfortable, and everything was so refined that lacked the "fun". But now that I look back, that comfort is nice when you are driving people around or in traffic.
