How do i get the best deal
By not asking for a golf R

How do i get the best deal
To be honest, I would say
1) By showing commitment. One of the first "few questions" a sales will ask you is "Will you be buying today if the car and payments all align?" Depending on "yes, I do plan to leave with a new car" VS "no, I am still info gathering, gonna still shop around" will yield different results 100%
2) Being flexible, consider the current inventory levels at all dealerships. Having the specific car in the specific trim in the specific color will most likely not happen. There is no such thing as "a perfect car for the perfect price". Dealers are always motivated to move units, so by willing to compromise on the things that you can compromise on, and accept certain realities, smoother transactions leads to better results in my opinion.
3) Being honest, know your budget and stick to it. I already had experience where people tell me they have a $500/mth budget, but wanted to finance a $60,000 car on our longest term (84 month) with 0 down. I will tell them that is $42,000 all in (500 X 84), that includes all fees, taxes and interests etc over a 7 year term. The car they should be looking at should be low to mid 30's before fees and they get offended. I would like to tell them the car they want doesnt existing based on the budget they have. I "cant" work on a good deal if you are already too far apart to begin with.
4) Last and most important point, find Dark0821 @ OpenRoad Hyundai lool, i gib yo best price

Not really, for dealers the game is rigged because book value is artificially low and then they sell at market value after gouging you on your trade-in (with the tax reduction being their main pushing point).
For private that’s a different story, it’s hard to find a deal or jump on it before anyone else but there’s the odd gem pops up here and there and if you throw in the potential of a USA sale there’s definitely possibilities. Americans will pay a lot more for cars than Canadians will.
Ex: I sold a car to an American for $9500usd in a week of trying after getting an inbox full of hate mail trying to sell it in Vancouver at $10,500cdn.

So how does pre-ordering a car work? Every dealer has told me 9 months which is fine, but no where on the sheet does it say the MSRP. It's just a shitty PDF with my name and credit card info. So I'm guessing they're just going to bone me when it shows up.
68style
09-19-2022, 02:56 PM
You can request it, depends if they have pricing info for the car or not.. and when they do they should update it with a build sheet.
A friend of mine when he pre-ordered his 22 BRZ he actually got them to write in that the car would be sold at MSRP on the sheet after pricing was announced...
I have a pre-order in of my own and it was before pricing was available... but after pricing came out they did up a proper sheet for me when I asked for it.

^ Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that I did sell my first car yesterday.
Didn't want to make it official until after the client clears financing, which they did today! Car is being delivered tomorrow @ 11am.
Honestly, the car sold it self. It was a niche car for sure, a top trim 2020 Genesis G70 3.3T Twin Turbo V6 with very minor bolt-ons, K&N short ram intake and downpipe with an aftermarket BOV. (all stock parts were in a big cardboard box inside the trunk)
To most buyers, the car is probably a tad loud, so it took alot of "luxury" out of the car (all those sound sound deadening + acoustically laminated glass) haha.
All I did was told the buyer that when G70 came on the market in 2019, it won Motor Trend car of the year, beating out its german rivals.
The car was test driven on Wednesday, and it was actually the 1st car I took to the "desking payment" stage, when I could show customer what their potential payments are going to be.
The guy needed to secure some funds and told me that he will let me know on Friday. 30min before we closed on Friday, he came in to pay the deposit and applied for financing (yea, financing and I stayed a little bit later past closed to submit the info to the banks).
Unfortunately I couldn't keep the momentum rolling, so nothing happened today, but at least all 6 guests that I've talked to today has all reached the desking stage. So they all walked away knowing what their payments will be if they went ahead.
I am still super newb and defn can't close for shiz. Everytime after the guests leaves, I will talk to the sales manager, and they would be super helpful to let me know what I couldve done to secure deposit. And I would be like "OH YEA! .... faaaacccckkk Why didnt I think of that, or Why didn't I say that?!" That would have totally changed the situation and maybe turned the hesistation to a commitment.
Welp...
It is exciting now, since I can see so much progress since I started, I was finally allowed to approach guest about a week ago.
Good Job.
Keep the ball rolling.

Ranked 2nd in terms of total deals closed
Ranked 2nd in terms of total vehicles delivered
Did wanted to pat myself on the back a little bit =) Since I don't get any phone/internet leads at all. It's all walk-in + my own ads for now.
To summarize, it feels like a lot of it came down to luck.
Now lets hope that I can do better in November!

Sadly I don't know too much about Genesis, we actually have a separate sales team dedicated to Genesis
I will find out tomorrow and let you know, but it won't be pretty for sure.
Our showroom is filled with Ex-demo units with 6,000-18,000 KM already on the 2022/2023 models. That is all the "inventory" we got in terms of "new cars" on both the Genesis and Hyundai side.

i dont know where all the LC's went but there's none on craigslist right now.
Some dude on the LC forums on clublexus said he just ordered one from openroad lexus richmond and delivery date will probably be next year around the same time.
my dealer buddy recently just saw this one come in for service. This fob owner apparently just took off to china and left this glorious INSPIRATION edition (white seats) coupe sit in his apartment garage. The battery was dead and mr fob jump started it backwards, so it fried all the electronics and was in the shop for weeks.

^there's rumors that 2023 will be the last year they make the LC500 Gerbs. Its a loss leader for Toyota and they've only sold like under 2000 units globally since 2018. They are losing money on every one they sell as they cant even recoup the development costs. They axed the F variant of the LC because of such lackluster sales already so im pretty sure the end is neigh for the LC.

In terms of mentality - the most challenging part is showing up to work not knowing if you are making money today.
In terms of job difficulty - I would say car sales actually suites me more compared to selling signs. But the 2 jobs are actually quite different. The last job was mostly business to business with only a handful of retail customers, while as this one is 100% retail. The only compliment that I received while at the dealership related to my last job is that people say I write very good emails LOL.
Having said that, I like chit-chatting in general, especially about cars (even mundane cars like the Elantra). So I found this job easy as I felt like I could be myself a bit more while maintaing some resemblence of being professional.
This part could be completely wrong = Regardless of closing the deal or not, the general sense I get is that no client was turned off by "my sale style". Maybe they are just being super polite, regardless of turning me down in person or over text/email. They always complimented my service, and found the process "a pleasent surprise".
Yes - there is a car sales licensing exam - it is dead easy, but a good tool to let you know what the legalities and specific terms of the car sales business is. The test is an open book multi-choice test, I would say easier than the knowledge test for your driver license since it is open book.
I am super thankful of everyone here, and the ones that reached out to me personally! And something stuck with me after I accepted the job offer but before I started...
I am in the business of helping my clients find their next car, not in the business of selling cars. It is this mentality that I carry everytime I approach a client.

Here is a question for you.
How do you feel about customers buying cars they can't afford or writing a horrendous deal that will pad your pockets? I'm sure sales managers are breathing down your neck. Seems like all sales people eventually fall into this bucket.
How do you think you will justify to yourself that you're doing the right thing?
My buddy works finance at Honda and the deals he sees come across the table...60k accords and neg equity up the wazoo. All the sales guys tell themselves if they didn't write the deal, someone else across the street would have and it's not their job to be their mom.

It’s supply and demand. Emotions isn’t part of this and least of all the poor sales guys who don’t dictate the market situation.
If you’re seriously poor but need a ride there are still a ton of es350 that are under 10-12k and completely usable for another 5-10 years. Most of these buyers who are willing to pay more are just splurging because they can, and refuse to wait it out. I should replace my 2010 ES but I’m going to wait it out

^ not in sales so I can't answer trollface's question from a practitioner's point of view but in the situation that you posed - anywhere, any sector, you cannot 'judge' someone. So to hint that maybe this is above your pay scale and maybe you should get a Corolla instead of a Lexus and not put yourself in a financial hole for 5 years ... well, you get the picture. You can't be the person's parents. You do the best that you can and give him/her all the information, specs and if customer decide to pull the trigger ... so be it.
As for setting customer up for a bad long lease high interest deal ... well, isn't that the finance department person's responsibility?

The PA's just construct the deal and it is up to the customer to pull the trigger to purchase the vehicle. At the end of the day, the PA found a right vehicle for their client and the client was OK with the numbers.
You have no idea how dumb some clients can be. I've seen them try to upgrade from a financed 2020 RVR (with huge amounts of negative equity) into a new RAV4. Or there was this other guy who decided to save a couple bucks and bought a pos Kia Sorrento over a Toyota Highlander.
At the end of the day, they approved of the purchase and decided to get themselves into a bad financial spot. I tried to help them but they didn't listen.

My job stops once the client has the ability to make an informed decision.

Most of what we're taught in HS is pretty useless in everyday life.
Thats one thing and the other they should've taught us is how to file our own damn taxes. :lawl:

Mind you, what CE12 showed up back then was extremely simple -- basically just plug your T4 numbers in. I think investment income was limited to bank interests / T5, and maybe also dividends. But again, it was mostly get your T-slips from whoever it was, and plug it into the right box on the tax filing form.

Not sure how the 20hp will stack, as the Elantra is most defn heavier I would say. But maybe it rides better due to the longer wheelbase?
I can comment on how good we have it in Canada though, people from the states will drive up to our Richmond dealer to pick up parts for their N. Some of our "standard equipment" on our "N" is downright not available in the states, even if you wanted to pay extra. The only thing I can think of are the cold weather options. In my M3, most southern cars don't get the heated steering wheel. People look for a heated wheel to swap into their cars, whereas it comes standard on all Canadian models.

From what I saw in finance and accounting roles, friends got a standard 3% pay bump without asking nor promotions, so roughly $2.5-3.5K. I got 6.2%, which is also not outpacing inflation. On a retail staff level, I did see a lot of raises north of 10 - 20% but that's going from $18 to $21.5/hr.

Just got a decrease this year 2023 compared to 2022, reasoning is invenroty looks to be better than last year, there are now more cars to sell.
More cars with the same amount of sales on the floor = more cars being sold by everyone, hence you should still make the same if not more than last year.

How do you feel about this? I am not in car sales so I have no idea what I am talking about, but it feels like you are doing more for the same pay. Increase in inventory doesn't automatically mean increase in potential buyers. In the end, you are doing more work, selling more cars, to make the same as before. Feels like corporate/ dealership owner's greed to me looking from the outside.

Hard to say how I feel about it tbh, but all in all, making quite a bit more than my last gig... so no complains there....
Say for the past 15 years your sales increase 10% per year. You get about a 10% cut in your pan plan each year to keep you making about the same. So you have to hustle, basically run non stop all day. No breaks, non stop. It was good pay 15 years ago, no reason to look for another job. Now it's hard not to look at all these better paying job for far less work. If you have a trades ticket, public sector is the place to be with annual raises and some union shops have additional inflation raises. The dealership kick in the teeth is that they talk about how inflation is high and people can't afford to spend but good job with increasing sales, here's a pay cut. That's the car industry for you. Nobody gives a shit about you anymore.

so when is the best time to get a new car with all these inflated sale prices?
That is more like a crystal ball question.
IMO, much of the reasons for the continual dealership-level premiums are due to manufacturers' ongoing inability to produce enough cars for the demand. And that in turn is due to supply chain and semiconductor issues that have been plaguing us since the pandemic.
Honda has indicated that foresee the semiconductor issue easing (for them) in the 2nd half of 2023. I think they are either too optimistic, or have signed some sort of semiconductor supply contract to ensure a smoother operation. But overall, I don't really see the semiconductor situation easing until more of the new US semiconductor plans come online, and that is still a good 2 - 3 years away. And even then, the problem may not get resolved because I think China is involved in the early steps in the raw material to silicon wafer production, and the Western World isn't exactly on friendly terms with China right now.
IMO, for things to get back to normal, the World needs to get itself into a state where manufacturing wouldn't be so dependent on China. Things are moving in that direction, but we are far from being there.
If the world heads into a recession though, prices will soften a bit, but that is only due to lower demand and not any improvements on the supply side, and the supply side is where the real problem is right now.

Honda seems to have caved a bit in that they are now selling trims without features where they lack chips - like they have the new CR-V without blind spot monitoring available next to versions that do have it (CR-V LX-B vs LX).
If I remember correctly the European makers are hamstrung by the war in Ukraine as they get a lot of chips from that region - a number of Porsches were shipping without certain headlights and power steering wheel adjustments etc due to a lack of supply. As long as Putin is a warlord things on that front won't get better.

Nah, not possible. China's minimum wage is 2.50$ an hour, not to mention the factories that employ children.
If they employ children, then you can assume what the cost is to produce goods for our built in touchscreens, ass cooling, and door handles.
The whole "we need these jobs in USA and Canada!!!" argument is great, until the cost to manufacture locally is 500-800% higher.
If anything, I'm assuming you mean being dependent on other third world countries, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, etc

The expectation will always be selling more and making the same amount to keep things level.
The thing is you are always doing the same thing, and the price of the cars will rise to match inflation, so with that you've got an automatic "raise" function built in.
I hate to say this, but a car salesman is a car salesman, the difference between a good one or a bad one, or an experienced one is their ability to move more units, or more expensive units. If you do that your wage goes up/down correspondingly.
So I can see why it isn't a job where you get "raises", why would you.
As a similar example, as a tradesperson, if you stay as a regular Level 3 Apprentice, then you will not get raises beyond some crap for inflation as wages rise. The raises come with getting your journeyman ticket, becoming a foreman, or a super. Similarly for car salesman, you need to become sales manager, and then GM of the dealership or something like this.
The other difference between a tradesman and a car-salesman, is a tradesman with 30 years of experience is going to be handedly better than some guy with 4 years fresh out of school. So there is an expectation to pay these craftsmen more for their experience.
Translate that back to car sales, and the only thing experience counts for is selling more units, or more expensive units. So you either gotta move from Toyota to Ferrari, or you gotta be slanging camry's like your Walter White.

Actually, under Emperor Xi, min wage has risen quite a bit in China, as had the supposedly employer-paid work/medical insurance. So while China's labour costs are still significantly lower than what N.America / Japan / Western Europe pays, compared to many places in SE Asia -- think India, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, etc. -- China's labour costs are actually nowhere nearly as attractive as they once were.
And then there is the risk factor -- the US-China trade wars (started during the Trump era, and has since been significantly ramped up by Biden) as well as the pandemic has made manufacturers of all kinds come to the realization that the geopolitical risks of operating a business in China has become far too great. Many are either relocating their supply chain business elsewhere in SE Asia, or are just shutting down altogether. Apple/Foxconn, for example, is relocating a sizable portion of its factories from China to India. SK Hynix (memory chip manufacturer) will no longer produce higher tech products from their China plants (due to the US semiconductor ban to China). Toshiba closed its Dalian plant of 30 years.
There was a time when China was the World's biggest and best factory, but that is no longer the case now. Once enough of the supply chain have moved out of China, things will see a bit of improvement.

Good luck becoming SM or GM of a store; it's very difficult to get into management positions without having some sort of insider connection and a lot of time spent selling. But if you were successful in selling, why would you get into management? The real gravy sales jobs are the finance managers
Those who are able to sell high volume of cars most likely have good social connections, ability to generate additional leads (or pay for it), and are charismatic with high closing ratios.
Couple years ago, Product Advisors were given flat commission on low gross profit cars like the Corolla. The only way they were able to make a decent amount of money was on the bonuses and lowballing trade ins.
There are no raises in sales jobs. Sell more and that's your raise.
More cars with the same amount of sales on the floor = more cars being sold by everyone, hence you should still make the same if not more than last year.
But at the same time, every other manufacturer should have more stock to sell so consumers have more choices to shop around for the right vehicle.

One of our PAs was a Sales Manager at a diff dealer, and has since moved back to sales, when asked, he just said he makes way more as sales and way less stressed... so lol...
local dealership pay is not the same as 15 years ago. It was unheard of before but this is what's been happening. Base pays are being cut, commissions are reduced all over the board. You're going to have targets that 1% of the sales can hit. So even if you sell more year over year you likely still make less and less every year. Then consider inflation and you're doing worse than you thought. That's why I'll never recommend this line of work.

My SM friend said the last 3 years was his peak earnings at close to $300K after bonuses. Apparently finance managers are clearing $150 - 250 all day at the moment and don't really need to fight for sales as there's a constant waitlist. But they do work all day + weekends. Heard him talking to the GSM on making $400 - 800k lol. :heckno:

well every dealership only needs 1-2 of these guys/gals so thats like what? less than 50-80 people making that kinda scratch in vancouver? its not like these positions come up very often for the average joe to just jump in. Im pretty sure its all based on who you know
Seems like if you got a huge social network and you are good at sales, being a realtor would make better scratch with the same amount of effort. At least it was a few years ago. If these ching chong ling long ah mo's (old ladies) can do it, then a lot of you guys doing car sales should be able to do it.

Anyone jump ship from one category of work to another? And I'm talking like full 180. Or maybe at least a solid 45 degree turn
Feels like more days I'm debating if I should be doing something new at work. Borderline bored / unmotivated in general.
Then there's days where I remind myself it could be a lot worse. (Mashing a keyboard, pushing pencils, being micromanaged, not liking my co workers, bad work hours, etc)
Then I remind myself how much I disliked school, and I should never go back.
Then I have several good days/weeks at work, and I don't even think about it, and the cycle repeats
Anyone jump ship from a trade into ?????, thoughts, suggestions?
Was looking at becoming 5-0 for the longest time, but nope to the 4 on 4 off random ass shifts.
Was looking at getting my helicopter licence, but don't think I can sit in a chair for 8hrs.

Those aren't mutually exclusive, though.
There are far more sad ppl under the poverty line than there are sad people making 300k. There is a line somewhere, but it's often tilted towards the dollar bills side, especially in a city as expensive as Van.
The stress you put on a relationship when you cant afford rent is a whole lot rougher than spending 300k on FunkoPops and whisky.

I'm probably completely ignorant to what I have, and the opportunities I have had. Your probably right on the change of scenery.
Maybe it also has to do with hobbies after work. I tend to surf 2-3-4 times a week in NZ. Whereas I'm only going out 1-2 times a week for a bike ride here, and a night cruise 1-2 other days.

- meeting new people and just chit chatting

- experiencing just all kinds of cars, and management encourages it, because only when you drive your own used inventory, you can then find its strength and weakness then match them to the clients wants and needs, otherwise a real shit example of a competitor can be your ticket to selling your own new inventory lol
- and most of your service techs are car guys thru and thru, so break/lunch has always been too short
- managers have been great, absolutely no micro-managing, but do give you actual advice when you are stuck in a deal and goes up for help, also.... car guys thru and thru, cant stress that enough, we can talk for hours and hours on the new GT3 or R32, if it wasn't for work, I would actually just sit at the managers desk because they just have so much insight on the topics that I want to know more about....

I went from API fuel tank inspector traveling 250+ days a year, to private lending mortgage broker, now am outside sales in construction industry. My whole career has been a 180. Love where I’m at now though.
Inspector - solid money, fun going to new places, too much travel life in hotels, wife/me wanted kids, needed more work life balance.
Mortgage broker - private lending world is a strange place, praying on the weak essentially which I wasn’t into, cubical life killed me, only did it for a year and a half.
Outside sales - great work life balance, meeting new people and not being in office, I’m a golfer so the perks are great for that haha
love where I’m at now but definitely scary to do the 180s especially once I had kids/mortgage.

The pilot road is no easy task. It baffles me how little they make until they make captain at a bigger commercial airline. My best friend is a commercial pilot for a major airline and he’s mid 30s, started the process when he was very early 20s; Slowly working his way through the smaller airlines, up north for a bit, then Canadian commercial, then transferring to bigger airline, now finally copilot on 737. During Covid when no one was flying he went to sweep grain at the railyard in van, making mid 80s or so…..he’s now flying human beings around the planet and had to take a significant paycut to get his seat back. Eventually will be making 250k + but holy shit it’s a long journey to that money.

I started out reading the original post thinking this sounded like such a bad idea, but then I remembered just how honest-to-god no-BS, genuinely happy and excited you are about cars. And I vividly remember that from something like 15 years ago!
I'd buy a car from you even if it wasn't the best deal: sometimes the value of a sales experience is not calculated in dollars.

To be very honest, I just forgot completely....
The biggest change since the job change = I got fat. like fat fat, I went from 130 to 132 LBs to now 190 LBs, none of my shirts and suits fits me, I have to buy blazers like 3 times, went from small to now large... and I dunno... fook
Dont listen to Badhobz, I was never #1, the only time I got #1 was when the real #1 went on vacation for like 3 weeks, otherwise I am consistently in the top three 99% of the time...
I guess I have the gift of coming off genuine and friendly? people do tend to buy cars off the people they like?
I am somewhere stuck in between (my manager has found this thread), but I like Hyundai because the Sales managers are nice and Finance managers are nice (huge help that the head of Business Office/Finance manager is literally my best friend).
I do want to cont to craft my skills and move to a luxury brand, but at least from what I heard from mutual friends, luxury brands aren't doing too hot at the moment.
Ultimately I do want to be at Porsche, it seems like the perfect balance between income and passion.
But from what I understood, as a Porsche advisor, you are expected to be very very VERY independent, you are expected to take care of the deal from start to finish, you shouldnt need to go to the sales manager unless it is a very unique situation.
They wont hold your hand like they do at Hyundai, at Hyundai, you are just expected to bring the client to the desking stage, if you cant close, no worries, bring a sales manager down to your desk, and the manager will try to help you close your customer. They don't do this hand holding crap at Porsche, and that is where I really need to up my game.
I think I can get to desking pretty confidently, but closing is a whole other story, I am not gonna lie, I only close a very small percentage of my client, and I think those client will buy the car regardless which sales are sitting across from them, any of the "difficult" clients, my managers constantly come down and help me out, and they seems to do the impossible task that I can not do.
If I want to suceed at any other dealer, I need to step up my game, defintely wont find the same sucess if I were just let loose at the floor of a Porsche dealer as I am now
Other updates, I am starting to weep the benefits of being in the industry for "a while", we had an EV sale last month, and rather than being on the phone trying to call every person I said hi to in the last 6 months, I was "top sale" for the sales event because people just came in and looked for me from referrals and such. That was wild, random people that I never met "came in specifically looking for Jacky to buy an EV because so and so told them to go to Jacky".
My ultimate plan remains that I want to go to Porsche. Even just for the internal product training hahaha, I assume it will be easier to digest than the "latest 2025 Tucson changes", but yea.
Thanks everyone and I will try to update again when I make a big change. But so far, still at Hyundai, because truly believe I am not quite ready for the next step yet~ that and frikkin Porsche Richmond/Langley aren't hiring LOL, I cant do Vancouver, that turn over rate just seems.... unatural....

Dark0821 out of curiosity do you know how supercar sales rep survive? Like Ferrari/Lambo/Mclaren etc. Sure they make more commission but they also don't have as much volume. Also the CCP clampdown and slowing China economy + federal luxury tax seem to have cooled down the $100K+ market.
Porsche seems to be the ultimate brand right now. No discounts and they have volume sellers like the macan/cayenne.

2021 Porsche 718 Spyder PDK
The modern 550 Spyder of today. In an era of chasing performance numbers, outputs and reinventing the wheel, the 718 Spyder is a machine that completely throws out all of the statistics out the window, focusing solely on driver engagement and the raw emotions of a driver's machine. Self driving, witchcraft suspension, electric motor torque fill? Nah. Just a traditional, honest mid engine chassis with balanced, knife edge agility paired with a free breathing, high strung 4 Litre Flat six from the Porsche GT car division. Trust us, top down in this will give you a full unfiltered serving of proper GT Car motor induction noise experience, unmatched with anything else out there today under a million dollars. We totally dig the specification of this 718 as well: Classic Full red dash / Black alcantara contrast in the spartan, lightweight carbon fiber bucket seats finished with a no nonsense Black metallic exterior paintwork. Aurum Finished Spyder wheels gives off a dash of that perfect JPS retro feel to this superb machine. Modern Powertrain paired with retro cues of the golden years, this is indeed the perfectly balanced Porsche of today.

Propelled by a bi turbo V12, this mega luxury SUV provides both oodles of seamless power and swiftness as expected of a benchmark luxury machine. We are truly excited for this one!

Haha, when is the last time you went to Porsche? No man, Even Porsche isn't immue to the current market, yes you can have discounts, not only on Macans/Panameras/Cayennes.
You can walk in to buy a brand new 911 (obv no GT series) with no prior history with the brand, you can get into a brand new Carrera-T lower than the official Porsche Canada websit.
Porsche is starting to have UNSOLD ALLOCATIONS on 911, when was the last time you had this happen?!

60lbs in the span of a little over a year is a lot, a fuckton lot.
Clearly your eating habits have changed, you certainly need to get on top of that.
I do hope the stress of this job hasn't been the causation of that rapid weight gain, because if so, you might need to reconsider some things there.

Agreed. That is a massive change. Curious if you've gotten any professional opinion on overall health on it?
My biggest fluctuation was about 30lbs drop over a course of a year. It was so noticible that some of my friends were concerned I had contracted some disease or health was in jeopardy. Cant imagine one twice that amount.

I think the key to maintaining a healthy weight and being healthy in general is to marry someone (or have a side piece) who is active and healthy. I'm sorta kidding but I see the friends who married someone active and healthy and they naturally become active and healthy as well.
OTOH, I married someone who is largely sedentary (who can't cook) while I'm also a fairly sedentary person (who loves to cook and eat) and, surprise, surprise, we don't exercise much and each pretty rich food.
The other option is to find a hot young girlfriend so you're suddenly motivated to get into shape.

hahaha thanks for the concerns guys...
No, just 100% down to my bad eating habit, I was at one point 220LBs almost a decade ago, went to do blood work, 30 yrs old, and have the three highs (high cholesterol, high blood pressure, high blood sugar)... my doc just told me
Fuck son, you are frikkin 30
I can put you on meds, but you have to realize these meds once you start, you can't stop, and these drugs have some fucked up side effects. Most people start them when they are already in their senior years, so when the side effects catches up, you are already in your 90s or whatever...
You need to get your shit together
So I lost 90 lbs over a year and a little bit, just what everyone said
- cut sugar
- don't drink
- no eating after 6pm
I went from waist 40 to 28 for my pants
Now I am getting fat again LOL, and I realize losing weight is way harder when you are almost 40... holy fook.... but will try again to lose weight....because my Canada Goose is XS, and I cant afford to buy a second one lololol, all jokes aside, I can feel myself just being unhealthy, I do want to get in shape again....
So why don't we make it a challenage to give me motivation, it is July 23rd today, lets see where I am come Xmas time.
This is me today

129lbs is too little for you though, I would say it would be healthy at 140-150

You are right sir, I think I was happiest 140LB +/-5 LBs and I think that is where 90% of my wardrobe fits as well...
the 129LBs was wild though, you have to realize that photo was fully clothed in winter... the 182 just now was just T-shirt + boxers lol

Please bump every month and give me shit if I am not losing weight...
Just go work at the Porsche dealer across from you - the ladies there seem a lot more "motivating" based on their staff photos.

I think the key to maintaining a healthy weight and being healthy in general is to marry someone (or have a side piece) who is active and healthy. I'm sorta kidding but I see the friends who married someone active and healthy and they naturally become active and healthy as well.
My wife was always more active and healthy than me but since kids we've lost the time for basically all of our hobbies, let alone the healthy ones. On top of that I went from a low-stress, semi-physical job to a higher-stress WFH desk job.
I already don't eat much sugar, barely drink, trimmed down my breakfast, cut most of the evening snacks and we cook most of our own meals but I think it's daytime carby snacks that are getting me. It's way too easy for me to stress/boredom eat something "small" when I'm working since I'm at home.
So why don't we make it a challenage to give me motivation, it is July 23rd today, lets see where I am come Xmas time.
I'm in too. I gained a bunch of weight flying to Montreal every week lol. Need to drop probably 10-15.
Time for an RS weight-loss accountability thread? July 23 - Dec 23 is 5 months. Dec 24/25 will be mulligan days so see how we can do before then.

Cut the carbs, cut the sugary drinks and adding just a little more exercise would make a huge difference.
Riding your motorcycle instead of driving would probably make a difference as well.
I'm 180cm, and being rather largish for a Chinese guy, if I am working out regularly 170-180lbs would be normal for me. I was 175lbs right before covid as I had a cushy job, there was a work gym that I went to everyday before lunch, and ate a healthy cooked at home diet.
During covid I switched jobs to a higher stress job, and zero heavy weight workouts and I dropped to 150lbs in the middle of it.
I'm hovering around 160-165lbs now but my fitness has taken a nose dive.

Oh great, a thread full of shirtless photos taken in the bathroom of each of us posted weekly as proof of our weight loss efforts. Enough man boobs for Hobz to get permanent erectile dysfunction. Who says No to this?
