I put the "stolen" in quotes because, the rule of the dealer is, if you dont "stay in contact" ie, have notes with the client within the last 6 weeks, then its free for all~

No, those will be sometime late this year or early next year.

Ioniq 9 released in North America will be the only Hyundai EV that has the NACs port from the inception~

But all existing owners will get a free adapter eventually hahaha.

For Hyundai specifically too, the NACs technically is a downgrade in charge speed. But of course the benefit of such a wide charging network is well worth it.

Thanks! I just picked it up on Friday so it probably wasn't me.

The first batch of 2025 models intended for Canada are made in S. Korea so they still have the CCS port. The ones made in the US factory in Georgia have the NACS port. I don't know what Hyundai Canada will do if the US-made cars get hit with tariffs.

My parents got the ioniq 5 when it first came out and it's been a great car. It has buttons along with touchscreens which is great for seniors. Aside from some 12V ICCU issues (fixed so far with software updates) and a weird glitch when the car thought it was tilted. The facelift one you got fixes a lot of the annoyances (rear wipers). The BIG one fixed was that the original ioniq 5 had 2 coolant systems one had to replace every 3 years which was $$$$. Facelift one got rid of it.

Yeah most stock BMW M pads are GG friction rating while the base models have FF grade pads. At this range, there will be dust.

On the aftermarket, the "upgrade" StopTech sport pads are only FF rated; Akebono Euro Premium Ceramic are somehow GG but I don't buy it.

The Akebono pads aren't, the initial bite is a lot weaker and they have no endurance if you use it hard.

I'm on EBC Blues. They have a fantastic temperature range but Mission will destroy 60% of a set of new pads in one day. They are also "squishy" when hot, I drove another car with Pagids and the pedal feel was a lot more positive. The EBC still dust, but not nearly as bad as OEM, and the dust isn't as sticky and mostly washes off with a pressure washer on a coated wheel.

That being said, the Pagids squeals like a fucking train, and I can use my EBC in the snow without problems, it'll stop on the first application.

with dust, easier to just ceramic coat the wheel and blast enough dust off

I've owned like 4 of these Chrysler minivans now... they are fucking indestructible. I briefly had a blue automatic one that I never took photos of, it had the 3.0 Mitsu V6 and was a piece of shit and I got rid of it in a week. I'm sure a lot of people have had good luck with the 3.0 Mitsu, but every 3.0 Mitsu engine I've owned has had major problems over and over again.

The white/gold one had the Mitsu 2.6 and that engine was a complete piece of shit. If you remember a massive traffic jam one morning on the bridge between Langley and Maple Ridge, it was because my engine threw a rod coming down the ramp into Langley...

The 2.5 and 2.5 turbo is incredibly stout. When my life was completely fucked during COVID for not taking the vaccine, I drove my 2.5 with the 5-speed manual transmission, with a blown head gasket from Maple Ridge to Kelowna back and forth twice to move on the same day, steam pouring out the exhaust and had to refill the radiator several times, but the engine never gave up. The van STILL runs 3 years later, but I did have to finally change the fuel pump after it died on me this summer.

Before COVID I was rockin' this 2.5 manual 5 speed turbo van and it was sick, I sold it so I could buy another turbo, 5 speed car, but that's another post...

The white van with the Daisy wheels, I paid $1000 for during COVID, it came with snow tires and a ton of parts, I put nearly 40,000 kilometers on it, zero oil changes, just topped it up, the only maintenance was brake pads... guess how much Lordco wanted for pads? $180! Fuck that!

I got brake pads for it from RockAuto... $10 on clearance. The shipping was more expensive. Beat the ever living fuck out of this van going up and down the mountain to where I lived in Big White for over 2 years and it never left me stranded. Absolutely zero maintenance. It just would not die until the $40 fuel pump croaked this summer. No BCAA so it was a shitty $200 tow, that sucked.

I don't really get HK car pricing, it's so inflated when you buy new due to the taxes but used cars are so cheap. I find that some older cars are cheaper than what they are worth here. :fulloffuck: so how come used cars aren't worth more if new ones are so expensive

But I believe they have a rule that your daily driver can not be more than 15 years old similar to Japan? So they forced the car off the road once it ages out.

Doesn't apply to collector car (like exotics) or commercial vehicles.

So if your car is gonna be obsolete in 4 years, you are really buying it for 4 years of use.

A couple of other factors why used cars in HK are also cheap relative to here include:

Operational costs are high: parking, gas, maintenance etc.
Culturally the population is averse to used cars (or used items in general)
HK humidity + summer heat reduce a vehicle's longevity
Good public transport system lowers the demand for cars
Unsure about this, but I don't think HK has a CarFax equivalent. This adds a lot of uncertainty for car shoppers when looking at used vehicles.


The monthly expenses add up quickly - $300-400CAD/month for home parking, another $300-400 if you park somewhere near your workplace in the city, $3-4/L of gas, plus insurance and maintenance.

These factors skew the mainstream car shopper to those who are at least financially comfortable purchasing a new car when in the market and can support the everyday expenses that go with it. Even then, the public transit system is good enough to make car ownership not worthwhile.

It's costly to buy a car in HK because of the tax on new cars. It's basically 100% on the MSRP of the car itself. A lot of car collectors and big ticket cars don't pay the HK tax and and don't register their cars and just run on T-plates (think demo plates in Canada). Who wants to pay 3MHKD for tax on a Ferrari Pista (unless you're insanely rich and don't give a fuck), not to mention after they pay HK tax, the owner is not going to be ever feasibly sell their car outside of HK market because they can't ever recoup the HK tax paid. This is also how you tell who's really rich. LOL. Many of the $$$ cars on T-plates are cars of dealerships/flippers.

It's also costly to upkeep and store cars. Annual license fees per car are based on a old stupid scheme based on engine cc size. You DON'T have to pay license fee if you are on T-plates. Funny fact, I was trying to get rid of my dad's clean but old S500 that, I eventually ended up selling it for scraps because, if unsold we were paying 5000HKD/month for the parking spot. A lot of car friends told me, that if the car was a S320 or unregistered on Tplates, it would sell much easier.

Hong Kong's First Registration Tax used to be completely free on EVs.
Nowadays, it's more like 60-200k HKD discount on FRT.

New Model 3: 254k + 198k FRT - 60-200k exemption = 250-392k
New CLA250: 499k after FRT.
Used CLA250: ~270k, no FRT.

That said, taking uber or driving in HK easily cuts trip times in half cuz transit is slow af.
My most common trips out of Sheung Wan / Sai Ying Pun were always closer to 60 minutes.

In NYC, public transit is not only 24 hrs but is also always faster than driving.
Crossing the "harbour" to Queens/Brooklyn/Jersey is consistently 30 mins tops.
Express trains are probably a big part of it.

My photog friend would disagree.. you know the one that shoots professionally. iPhones can do most of the things a DSLR can. The thing that makes a difference is that you need nice equipment for movement shots, like sports or racing for that 1 in a lifetime shot. He says, that's a matter of luck. All the other basics like framing can be done on the iPhone.

I actually REALLY dislike the iPhone 16 Pro camera as a casual shooter

Before:
3X zoom was 80mm; perfect length for portraits because it does the right amt of compression of the background, bringing it closer to the subject

Now:
No 3X zoom, 1x-4.99x are all digital.
The backgrounds look way further away from the subject since it's 24mm.

New 5X zoom is like 120mm which is great for parents taking pics of their kids on the field or smth.
Gotta be standing crazy far away from the person you're taking pics of.

Aye of course it can do most things a phone camera can. The problem is it’s completely artificial. The bokeh produced by a cellphone is software processed and it looks weird due to the outline of the subject is often improperly cut out or edges are blurry and undefined.

Your average shmoe won’t appreciate that sort of thing but if you take photos as a hobby and learn more about it, you start looking down upon the images taken by cellphones. Depth of field is lacking, dynamic range is lacking, and their so called 48megapixel is basically just an upscaled 4x 12mbs image. Also When you crop that 12mbps image down on the 2.0 or some other NONE prime lens the result is horseshit. It’s terrible! As alluded above. Try and look at the image on the 4.99 magnification. It’s trash.

When the lighting is good, probably not. Since most of the shots on his website has decent lighting, it's pretty hard to tell the difference. Its the long ranges / low light conditions, then you can tell the difference.

Hell sometimes even in low light, my iPhone can take a better and cleaner shot than the mirrorless camera.

Thats why I hesitated so long to buy a real camera.

The phone cams have so much post processing which makes certain hard to shoot scenarios easier. There's no skill involved with a cellphone in low light, but you need to know what you are doing with a camera.

Can you light paint with a cellphone? I don't think there's options to set exposure, iso, and aperture unless you are using a phone that's dedicated photography like the Sony Xperia Pro line. The problem with the Sony is the software is kind of terrible to use. Trying to fiddle with stuff on screen really means you'll miss the shot.

Most untrained eye won't be able to tell, but you can definitely pick up post processing by the phone if you know what to look for. For fast media like IG most ppl simply won't care.

I did!!! i bought this 50 dollar adapter from amazon so I can use my dad's old 1970's lenses. Its pretty sweet! surprisingly sharp.. in my photography thread, that first moon shot with the branches was taken by this takumar lens.

I don't mind the front plate, never bothered me except on a specific few cars that look weird with a plate. In terms of a safety and accountability thing, I'm actually all for front plates.

I also don't mind amber side markers and most ppl like to delete them, so I'm just weird. I prefer the extra visibility it provides and most cars have it integrated well enough that it doesn't bother me.

i ended up with a Ford Everest in Melbourne, a X3 35i in Perth, and a lousy Mitsu Outlander in Gold Coast.

Worst by far was the outlander, then everest, and the x3 was decent.

The X3's safety systems were annoying though like lane keep would jerk the wheel randomly at times, and also flash errors like BRAKE BRAKE BRAKE for no reason. Also wireless car play died a few times on the x3 but not as much as it died on the mitsu, which was basically just trash on wheels.


Ford Everest: randomly tells me to keep my hands on the wheel even though both my hands were on the wheel. Kept giving me a fatigue warning too. diesel was fun until its not, the clankering gets annoying and if you pair it with start/stop its a fucking disaster. Rode like an ox cart, especially on the bad roads around Melbourne. Got sea sick driving to the 12 Apostles

Mitsu Outlander: The brake was nothing, nothing, then full lock. It was very hard to modulate. The steering was way too vague, and the transmission was lethargic and dimwitted. Interior was utter garbage, seats were uncomfortable and the apple car play would die 1 out of every 4 times you use it. Considering the car only had 1000kms on it when i got it, you would expect a better product. No wonder mitsubishi is dead in north america, this product is absolute dog shit.

meanwhile the $300 wireless car play on my amazon unit on the e46 has never disconnected even with a battery swap it stayed paired.

I haven’t had any connectivity issues with iDrive 7+ BMWs, except when I try to continue a call after getting out of the car to grab something from the trunk. I’ll transfer the call to my phone, but sometimes it reconnects to the car when I’m near the trunk, so I have to quickly switch it back to my phone. This sort of thing was not a problem with wired carplay which I prefer between the two options.

Chinese head units only need to make head units while honda needs to make the entire car attached to the headunit after making the head unit.

The BMW was worse from what I remember - the wireless CarPlay would disconnect about 20 minutes into nearly every other drive. Turning the Wi-Fi toggle off and back on temporarily fixed it, but only for another 20 minutes or so. I often had to park the car and get back in to get a more stable connection.

The FK8’s wired CarPlay at least kept my phone charged, and most issues were resolved by simply unplugging and reconnecting the phone or resetting the head unit.

I'm glad both experiences are behind me now :lol

Chinese OEM don’t have to pass the insane durability testing for shock, temperature, etc meaning they’re 1-4 years ahead with their tech.

Honda’s most recent gen of infotainment still worse than 2015 Stellantis UConnect from in Charger and Grand Cherokee.
BMW iDrive 9 are still the one to beat with Ford Sync 5 coming in a very close second.

Yep earlier i4, iX had especially unstable modules and poor shielding for wireless carplay. heat makes it much worse, as does enabling low power mode and updating your phone before BMW can release a companion update.

Among EVs, Ford’s Mach-E and Lightning have done this best.
Their app is Tesla good, phone as a key works, Carplay/Android Auto are not only wireless but it also supports EV route planning/preconditioning via Google and Apple Maps.
This stuff is so easy my 65 year old dad who thought he lost Google when the Chrome icon disappeared on his phone can figure it out.

In 2025 Ioniq, I haven't tried how stable it is but.....
Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto don’t support EV route planning or battery preconditioning.
Not only do you still need to use the built-in Hyundai navigation system for those features,
But also, to make it work properly, you have to start Carplay first, then turn on the onboard nav. If you reverse the order, it cancels the Hyundai route planning/whatever.

Low key the Hyundai and Kia apps also really suck.

My coworker took his GL to MB Richmond for service and got Smart Fortwo as loaners regularly. He hates small cars so a Smart car is the worst thing to put him in.
