I was probably just lucky, but with the Avery automotive-grade stickers that I have used in the past, they can still get removed -- from the paint, no less! -- after maybe 7+ years without leaving much residues behind. I'm sure there are cases where they will peel off the clear coat when the sticker gets removed though.

As to paint fade, if the car sits under the sun a lot, I'm sure the sticker-covered portion will have a more saturated / original colour than the exposed portion. That is just how sun bleaching works, and there is no way to get around that.

If you flip the script and instead of thinking about it as "saving your money" aka "avoid fun and happiness" (because whose brain wouldn't say "nah fuck that"?), think about it instead as "building wealth".

Building wealth as in taking that money and investing it. Take that cash and stick it straight into an S&P500 index fund, any chance you get. Spam VOO/VFV and just forget about it for the next 20 years. Over a decades long time horizon, historically the S&P500 would gain you 5-8x. How does $136,000 sound to you?! :)

LOL she was on-call with Canada post. That shit was brutal.
Some cheques $200, some cheques $2000. some cheques $800....

and she had to use her own vehicle, so she had a CX9. insurance was $512 a month for delivery.

gas was approx $450 to 550 a month.

Totally not worth it, she now works from home, CX70 is pleasure use at $200 a month of so and she use 1 tank of gas now. which is approx $100

all in all, she is saving $600 ish a month just to work from home full time.

The performance already came with a factory sub.... so armed with $30 amazon wiring kit its going in the prius...

didnt wanna go thru a door card... so just took off the center console

tucked wires behind glovebox... and did air filter while I was there

trunk floor still goes on flat

It is still a problem... so now once a month, i have a quick connect on the 12V with a trickle charger that i top up my 12V with...

There has been prius owners who went thru 3 batteries already... all under warranty... but still a hassle

Congrats! What tipped you over to the BRZ vs the GR86?

BRZ is more widely available in Canada vs the GR86 - in the US it seems to be the reverse. GR86 carries a 3-4K premium over a BRZ here in Canada, for similar year/KM. Another very annoying thing - you can't get the GR86 Performance Package in Canada (Brembo brakes, Sachs dampers) without ponying up for a special edition (Hakone, Yuzu) which carries another 3-4k premium for essentially exclusive colour whereas the same items are available as a regular trim (tS) for Subaru. So a similar car would have been at least 5-6K more expensive in Toyota guise.

BRZ suspension is also tuned better (IMO) than the GR86. GR86 has a stiffer rear, which is much looser (easier to oversteer), and it is stiffer sprung for day-to-day driving, whereas the BRZ is more neutral-to-understeer, and more comfortable for day-to-day driving. Also, the BRZ throttle map is far more linear than GR86 - the GR86 is at WOT when your pedal is at 40% travel. It makes it seem "peppier", but it is harder to control on track/performance driving as your useful pedal travel is really 0-40% not 0-100%

Lastly, this was a CPO 2024 for a great deal, only had 4700KM when I bought it. And with the car being a Subaru platform, I trust Subaru techs more than Toyota techs if I had to get it dealt with under warranty (and apparently Toyota is hard to deal with regarding warranty work if you track your car, modded or not - they denied someone warranty for hitting redline [in the US]). The only Toyota things about this car are the transmission (Aisin) and the D4S injection system. Everything else screams Subaru!

Honestly this was the easiest, fastest, sales transaction I have had when buying a car. I negotiated via email, everything was pretty much done and dusted by the time I came to pick up the car. Declined all the extras, signed the papers, did the insurance and drove off. We weren't too far apart in number, the price was already quite low for the KM and year for the BRZ.

Traded in the shards of my VTEC dreams for Subaru tractor noises.

BTW, I got it in Trail, BC - so I had a nice little 1000KM drive home haha. :lawl:

I actually got the car in mid February, but since the Stock and Noob meets won't happen for a while yet, I decided that I couldn't keep it under wraps any longer.

I wish I had more time to check out the area, and I am sure it would have been beautiful in the daylight had I had the extra time that I planned for. My flight to Trail got canceled due to fog and I had to take the 2nd (and last) flight of the day there, which ate up all the cushion that I built into my little trip. I had wanted to spend some time taking in the sights a bit more before heading to Kelowna.

The drive in February to the next stop was quite challenging. Highway 33 & Highway 3 were winding, twisty, foggy, lonely and slippery. Sometimes as much as a half hour would pass between seeing another car on the road, and there were a lot of no-signal sections. The fog was very heavy, at times I would be down to 30-40kph in order to stay on the road, and it was single lane a lot of the way with no guard rails. The first turn out of Trail onto the highway, the rear kicked out on me thanks to brand new winter tires with release compound and a little bit of ice.

I had winter tires put on the car and brought the summer tires back with me - it was amazing after the S2000 to be able to carry a full set of tires in the car and have space left over for luggage and even a front passenger if need be. Getting to know the car over a 1000KM drive was nice, as it basically gave me time to "bond" with the car.

The trip to get the car was actually built into an ice racing weekend - I went to Trail to get the car, drove it 4 hours in a straight shot to Kelowna, overnighted there, did a midterm in the morning and then drove to Ashcroft, BC to set up for ice racing. Someone kindly brought my ice racing gear box from Vancouver to Ashcroft. Then drove back down to Vancouver after ice racing. It was one heck of a first weekend with the BRZ.

I was bored today so I decided to go for a drive out to Cascade Falls via Dewdney Trunk Rd. The roads were quiet and it was quite the scenic drive.

Sidenote, it was my first time really pushing the Continental ECS 02's, I'm quite impressed with the grip levels and the overall performance of the tires. I might replace the GTI's Michelin PS4S with the Conti's when the time comes.

How's it compare with the S2000, what're your impressions there?

So bear in mind my S2000 was highly modified, with coilovers, tuned engine, exhaust, and so on.

Just to save the time for those who don't want to read: S2000 is the better experience, BRZ is the better car.

The S2000 wins in the top down experience, the engine, and possibly the transmission. The raw feeling of the car, the VTEC crossover, the overall feeling - the S2000 is truly a special car. The early models, like what I have, also have this frisson of mortality every time you drive it hard as it has no safety nets beyond your own driver skill. The engine and the transmission is better than the BRZ. For a top down, exhilarating drive, hard to beat this car.

The BRZ is the far better and modern vehicle, as you would expect from a vehicle designed 15 years after the S2000. The interior is larger, as it is a 2+2, and the seating position is better because of the fully adjustable steering column. The chassis is better than the S2000, as it is far stiffer and modern, and the steering is better. The FA24 of the 2nd gen is much better than the FA20 of the 1st gen - in fact I refused to consider the 1st gen at all because of the engine. Having Carplay and a backup camera is also quite nice lol. The sound system is trash though, even if the tS is supposed to have the "upgraded premium" system. The stock exhaust and engine sound is also quite uninspiring. Subaru tractor noises.

Being able to carry a full set of wheels/tires, tools, and luggage for track days was also a big consideration for me as it was very limiting in the S2000 in terms of what I could carry with me when I went for multi-day track trips (VIMC or Ridge, for example). I haven't had the chance to drive the car on track or auto-x yet as I am still getting used to it, but I had a chance to drive it on the ice at Barnes Lake and the BRZ/86 is a far friendlier chassis than the S2000. The car really lets you know what is going on via your butt and hands, and you can control the chassis so easily and hold it at the limit. With no experience, I could toss the car into a turn on the ice and just hold an angle as desired. Plus, the running costs should be lower than the S2000 as parts are plentiful and cheap, and do not carry the rarity tax of the S2000 parts catalog these days.

That sounds pretty good to me!

I could never feel much from my AP1 either, after so many years of driving it on track. The best investments I made were a massive front sway bar and stuffing the fenders full of R-compound. Just to push away the limit, as an avoidance thing. For fear that I wouldn't be able to catch the next sudden step-out, and have the car spin me into the wall.

Having communication through the chassis, a wide band of controllability leading up to the limit, and a sustainable slip angle sounds like a lot of fun :D.

Wife said no more convertibles. I also don't fit incredibly well into a ND. The Miata is fun, but to get it ready for track I would need quite a few supporting mods (coilovers, BBK [Miata stock Brembos don't hold up that well compared to the tS Brembos as the Miata Brembos use essentially the same rotors and the rear is still sliding caliper/solid disc. BRZ tS Brembos rotors gain over an inch for each end, and have 4 piston/2 piston F/R calipers], rollbar for certain tracks - this last one is a biggie, and the RF top is not structural)

I would have wanted a ND2 or ND3 and those are still somewhat pricey as well.

It's the stupid bullshit Lexus/BMW style one where you have to half click it in the opposite direction to cancel the turn signal.

The 2025 model that I factory ordered reverted back to the original turn signal stalk. Also it was a "sport" button where it increases the throttle sensitivity, which I believe is the OEM GR86 throttle mapping.

Definitely one of the best modern analog sports car in today's time.

The sport button is fucking stupid, makes the throttle super sensitive, similar to how you were describing the throttle mapping of the GR86. The stock throttle mapping on the BRZ makes driving around the city a breeze.

The Sport button - only on the BRZ - supposedly gives you the GR86 front-loaded throttle map. So it doesn't change anything except that at 40% pedal travel you are commanding 100% WOT from the engine. Basically like those pedal commanders that people add.

u can spend 5 figures rebuilding and it still won't be as reliable as a nice used oem one.

1) frm liners - once the cylinder's cooked, no shop will touch them unless you remove the liner, bore it out, and reline.
2) crank bearings use some wizardry - to avoid custom-grinding bearings for each engine like Ferrari and F1, Honda does some bearing matching wizardry at the factory.

X5 runs 275/315 and the M runs 295/315.
The tires are currently oem p zero that are 5 years old and never taken off during winter. I bought them knowing they’ll need replacing soon but thought could sqeeze one more summer out of them. But that’s not the case here, I’ve never like the oem perelli in previous BMWs and these seem to be no different. Im lighting up the tires at 70% throttle due to the combination of narrower front, low tread, temp damaged. It’s fine for daily driving I guess, but may as well swap them out now.

Tire shop: both 275 or 295 is safe on the diff/transfer case to run but 275 is off by a tad.
BMW parts: both is fine to run but be mindful at speed.
BMW service advisor: run 295, you don’t need to give BMW a reason to decline a warranty claim.

More BMW content. Picked up this Z4M coupe - my first S54 car.

I looked at this car 9 years ago. Almost bought it. I ended up buying the clownshoe instead. I did turn a buddy onto this car, and he ended up purchasing it. Fast forward to now, and I was able to grab it from said buddy. Circle complete :fuckyea:

Concrete and steel frame a machine built for a singular purpose. A BMW Z4 M Coupé in Space Grey sits low against a brutalist retaining wall in the North Vancouver rail yard — unbothered, almost defiant. The flat grey of the pavement bleeds into the wall behind it, the car's metallic skin catching the last of the afternoon light, separating it from its surroundings just enough.
