Leg wraps won't do anything to protect you from the cold, as carbon fibre is not a very good heat conductor.

How is CF in terms of durability? I know in terms of Aerospace, CF is used extensively now. CF parts in aerospace are monitored closely for signs of internal failure, through constant non-destructive testing. IIRC its usually the core that gets damage though.
The reason I ask is, that CF tripods are expensive. If they get damaged easily and break, I would like to at least add some protection to make them last longer (hopefully forever).

It's quite durable. I treat my Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 like shit, and it's still going strong. I've got scratches and dings everwhere from dropping it, as I will often have the legs folded in monopod mode, and I'm too lazy to spread the legs after taking off the camera so I just let it tip over onto the ground. My Manfrotto 468MGRC2 head just broke from too many impacts, but I just have to buy a cheap part to fix it. With Manfrotto, you can always buy replacement parts, unlike some of the lower end brand names. I think Manfrotto guarantees replacement parts up to 10 years after a certain model is discontinued.
Aerospace parts go through way more stress than a CF tripod ever will.
