Penis severed, tossed into garbage disposal

In an incident recalling the infamous 1993 case of John Wayne Bobbitt -who had his penis reattached after a similar event -Catherine Becker was booked for poisoning and assault with a deadly weapon after she tied her husband to the bed Monday in Garden Grove, southeast of Los Angeles.

The woman, who was in the process of divorcing her 51-year-old husband, called 911 to declare a medical emergency after throwing his severed member in the sink garbage disposal and turning it on, said police spokesman Jeff Nightengale.

"Officers arrived and located a male victim tied to the bed and bleeding from his groin area," he said. "The female, identified as his wife, had used an unknown type poison and/or drug in the male's food to make him sleepy.

"She tied him to the bed and as he woke the female cut off his penis with a knife. The female tossed the penis in the garbage disposal and turned the disposal to the 'On' position."

Despite that, pieces of the severed member were recovered and taken to hospital, although it was not known if surgeons would be able to reattach them.

After arriving at the scene police untied the man, and seized a rope and 22-centimetre kitchen knife as evidence.

"The initial investigation determined that the two are married and going through a divorce," Nightengale said.

"The suspect made dinner for the victim and the male told detectives that he believed something was wrong with his food. The victim went to lie down, and he woke up tied to the bed with his wife tugging his clothes off.

"The suspect grabbed the victim's penis and cut it off," he said, adding that then "the suspect called 911 and told responding officers that he, 'Deserved it.'"

The woman, who was also booked for aggravated mayhem, false imprisonment and spousal abuse, was being kept in custody in lieu of $1-million US bail, he added.

The man, whose named wasn't released, underwent emergency surgery and was listed in serious condition, Nightengale said.

In the infamous 1993 incident, Bobbitt had his penis cut off by his wife Lorena, who drove away and threw away the member from a moving car. It was recovered and sewn back on, and Bobbitt subsequently became a porn movie actor on the back of his misfortune.

I hope they're able to restore some sort of functionality to the poor guy, I've heard of fingers being removed and attached as replacements for penises that have been lost.

I think i speak for all men when I say, I'd rather lose an arm, a leg or an eye than my penis.

Lorena Bobbitt was taken into custody. During the trial, the couple revealed details of their volatile relationship and the events leading up to the assault. She stated that her husband sexually, physically, and emotionally abused her during their marriage. She added that her husband flaunted his infidelities, and had forced her to have an abortion. Several witnesses provided testimony supporting her claims. Her defense attorneys maintained that John's constant abuse caused Lorena to eventually "snap" as she was suffering from clinical depression and a possible bout of post traumatic stress disorder due to the abuse.[3] However, when Lorena was arrested the night of June 23rd, she told the police, "He always have orgasm [sic], and he doesn't wait for me to have orgasm. He's selfish."[4] John Bobbitt denied the allegations of abuse. However, when he was cross-examined, his statements often conflicted with known facts, severely weakening the prosecution's case.[3]
After seven hours of deliberation, the jury found Lorena not guilty due to insanity causing an irresistible impulse to sexually wound her husband. As a result, she could not be held liable for her actions.[5] Under state law, the judge ordered Lorena to undergo a 45-day evaluation period at Central State Hospital, located in Petersburg, Virginia, after which she would be released.

After the incident, John Wayne Bobbitt attempted to generate money from his notoriety in a number of ways. He formed a band, The Severed Parts, to pay his mounting medical and legal bills, though the band was unsuccessful and failed to generate enough money.[6] In 1994, John appeared in the adult film John Wayne Bobbitt: Uncut, in another attempt to make money. In 1996, he appeared in another adult film, Frankenpenis (also known as John Wayne Bobbitt's Frankenpenis).[7]
