Helicopter Flying Around East Vancouver
So it's been half and hour now and wondering if anybody knows anything about this helicopter flying around in circles with a flashing red light? It has it's light beaming through streets and alleys near Nanimo, probably looking for somebody but any news?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The VPD is hoping the public can help them locate an 84-year-old man missing since this afternoon.
Waikun Kwan was last seen leaving his home on East 24th Avenue near Lillooet Street around 2 pm on his way to an appointment on Hastings near Gore.
Kwan has Alzheimers and his family is concerned he may have become disoriented. He regularly takes transit, and frequents the #16 (29th Avenue/Arbutus) bus.
Kwan is about 5'3" and 100 pounds. He was last seen wearing a yellow and green jacket, with brown or grey pants, and a white baseball hat. He may have been carrying a blue bag.
If you see Kwan, please call 9-1-1 and wait with him until police arrive.
Have you seen Waikun Kwan? - News1130

they would not be using air one to look for a missing person in the middle of the night. this would have to be a serious matter like an in-progress crime. unless, of course, the in-progress crime involves this 84 year old man.

thats not true. Missing elderly are taken very seriously for a few reasons. 1/ There is significant risk to their health/safety 2/ There is huge liability if police don't and something happens. (hence the public release etc)
So they do use Air one for missing people as well as in progress crimes. And the benefit of doing it at night is that there is no pedestrians around, and they can use the infrared camera to spot people.

i'm not saying that a missing senior isn't serious. i'm saying that it's not serious enough that the use of airone would be the best use of resources. especially considering that the senior went missing at 2pm and airone was only buzzing about 12 hours later. that's somewhat of a time delay if it WAS that serious a matter to have to use airone. as for the infrared use, it was 12 hours since he went missing from east van. the sun had set just before eight yesterday. that was 6 hours earlier. also, are they going to get the police on the ground to check every warm body they find with the FLIR? it's not like they were searching the woods where warm bodies would be rare. they were flying over east van. how did they know he was even still in the area? he was found at granville and w 63rd by people on the ground who have the ability to actually see and recognize his face.
my money is still on something else more serious in progress. at 2am? i'm thinking residential break-in with a neighbour calling it in.
glad the old man is safe though.
