Samurai Sushi is now, Kamura
So yesterday my buddy texts me a picture, to reveal that my (and probably yours too!) all-time favorite sushi joint in the entire world is gone.
Except actually they've just renamed themselves, to Kamura.
Turns out "Kamura" is a Filipino word. For inexpensive (for also "expletive", apparently  ).
Anyway I thought that was great, that they've now fully embraced the reason that they are so good. Great quality, greater quantity, at fantastic prices, run by Filipinos who are the secret to excellent everything.

That’s not right then … the OG samurai sushi was owned by nammers. Their side store in Richmond (banzai sushi) is still nammer owned and still has the huge ass rolls.

They renamed a while ago but the menu / nammer staff / phone number are the same. I go once in a while for their Maki Combo B.

I take my wife there every time we visit Vancouver. She is continually unimpressed. I don't understand why people make this comment "oh it's so much rice". Wth, so eat around it! It's still great!

Yea they supposed to be nammers, and I go to the Fraser one more, as of like 2 weeks ago Fraser is still samurai

I know the Cambie location is the OG store, but I go to the Fraser / 49th area often enough to know that the Sumari location there is still Samurai.
Will report back the next time I'm in that area on whether it is still Samurai.

Loved Banzai when I used to live in Richmond, would probably go like at least twice a month.

Didn't realize it was still there, going to Churchill I frequently hit Samurai of course. I can still remember exactly what the nammers at Cambie look like even though I haven't gone in probably 7 years. Is it still the nammer lady doing cash? I'm close to the one on Fraser but have only gone once in my life and it didn't hit the same as Cambie.

The same big-eyed lady that's been there forever is still there doing cash, along with probably the same crew making the sushi.
Portions are the same, though prices have gone up. Nothing's changed besides the new name and no dine-in since covid. Maki B Combo is my guilty pleasure - the portions stretched my meal budget during my high school / uni days.

I got my chicken bitch and nammer sushi in Richmond. What more can a man ask for ?! It’s heaven in Richmond
Oh and you guys gotta try village curry in Steveston. Best Indian food by far. It’s so good that there is actual Indians in there all the time. Not just a bunch of vegan Hondaracer’s.

ok no matter how much i wanted to save money and get good value for money when eating out when i was younger, i couldnt do this place more than a few times. the balance of fish and rice is actually unappetizing... like a whole mouth full of tuna and you've only had one bite. also they don't know how to thaw fish properly and it's often semi frozen inside
