SUV drives through Lapu Lapu Day Festival - Multiple Casualties
Just heard from friends that a man drove through bystanders at a street festival in Vancouver.
Multiple dead, many injured.
Apparently man is in custody.
I can't find any news about it.

More likely a coincidence since it aligns with the beginning of large outdoor events but maybe some sort of correlation with the person kind of copycatting. Code orange at the hospitals now. This is very bad.

I heard the street wasn’t blocked off by police or closed off. I thought they usually block the streets off with police cars for these kind of events.

Witnesses called into CBC and said the vehicle was let in. It was driving slowly initially but it sideswiped a pedestrian and then it went full throttle into the crowd. Looks like the kid had a senior moment, panicked and hit the wrong pedal?
They said they were letting cars in all day to pack/unpack their booths.

#VPDNews: Vancouver Police investigates mass casualty incident at neighbourhood block party
A suspect has been arrested by Vancouver Police after several people were killed and multiple others injured at a neighbourhood street party in South Vancouver earlier tonight.
At approximately 8:14 p.m. on April 26, a man drove into a large crowd of people attending the Lapu Lapu Day Festival near East 43rd Avenue and Fraser Street.
A 30-year-old suspect, a Vancouver man, was arrested at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing and is being led the Vancouver Police Department’s Major Crime Section.

I remember since the Toronto Van attack, all the public street activities in Vancouver such as fireworks had huge dump trucks parked on the street to act as barriers. Didn't they have any at the event tonight?

I saw a video of the guy being confronted after he was arrested, and he just kept saying sorry. I don't think it was an intentional terror attack. Just a random dipshit ruining many lives

According to the VPD, the suspect was known to them. They didn’t give details but did say it wasn’t a terrorist attack. I bet this guy will claim to be mentally ill, get bail, and roam the streets again.

If they claim to be mentally ill and get off the charges on that, don't they get ordered to seek mandatory mental health treatment as part of the bail condition? And if they don't show up, they'd be violating bail conditions, which means grounds for arrest.

More likely they would be indefinitely institutionalized. Sometimes it's far too short, sometimes it's forever.
