Email system - update your emails!
I have enabled the email system on the server, so users will now be able to send password reminders, subscriptions will work, etc
New registrations will still need to be approved manually by moderators
One issue that has popped up is the forum is sending things like thread subscription reminders to active users who have inactive emails attached to their accounts
So please make sure you have an up to date address, or at least cancel all your subscriptions so I don't get a bunch of bounced emails.

Q: why do spontaneous threads end up in my subscription list in UserCP? How does one even 'subscribe' to a particular topic/thread?

Usually you can choose to subscribe to a thread when you do a full reply (rather than use the quick reply box)
There may also be a setting in your userCP that auto subscribes to threads when you reply to them... so maybe check for that
