I'm sure you're aware of this as well, even if you have intentionally left it out in your post -- TSA agents are not getting paid because they are funded under DHS (Dept of Homeland Security), and DHS has run out of funding as a result of the Congress standoff. ICE, on the other hand, has been classified as "essential" just like other law enforcement officers, so they can still get paid.

What I find interesting from this latest ICE deployment is -- the special arrangement to send ICE to "help" at the airports reinforces the suggestion (or fact?) that ICE is really serving as the Orange Man's SS -- ie. Schutzstaffel from Nazi Germany -- to do his bidding. From the exceedingly large operating budget that they have been given, to the dirty work that they have done, I think it is very appropriate to view them under the same lens as the Nazi Germany era SS.

FCC Bans All New Routers Not Made in America
Routers the FCC has already approved can still be sold, but further approvals of foreign-made routers will not be issued.

The FCC’s public notice about this new router ban quotes a very dire-sounding “National Security Determination” at the FCC that was apparently issued on Friday: “Recently, malicious state and non-state sponsored cyber attackers have increasingly leveraged the vulnerabilities in small and home office routers produced abroad to carry out direct attacks against American civilians in their homes.”


The National Security Determination goes on to say that router vulnerabilities have been exploited as part of a series of notorious attacks and hacks, including the 2024 action by the hacker group Salt Typhoon. It says the supply chain for routers must be secured so that Americans can make sure weÂ’re not unwittingly providing backdoor access to U.S. telecommunications infrastructure.

I think there will be a segment of customers who will want or need their own router, bypassing the carrier-supplied routers. Those who are in multi-dwelling units may or may not have the ability to use their own router, so they are SOL.

I've been using my Netgear router for over 10 years and haven't had a reason to upgrade. They rarely, if ever, fail.

The FCC ban doesn't seem to make much sense. Based on the few news articles that I've read on the subject, it seems like TP Link routers (which are made in China) are often used in the cyber attacks bcos of their ubiquity in the market, not bcos they were China-made. The exploited vulnerabilities are also present on American-made routers (Cisco), so it sounds like it is the presence of those exploitable vulnerabilities, not the country of manufacture, that is the problem.

Furthermore, if foreign-made routers are deemed to pose this unacceptable level of risks, then the even bigger elephant in the room is -- what about all those foreign-made cell phones?! Today's smart phones carries far more personal and private information than anything a router can potentially capture, and I hardly think iPhones and Android phones are made in the US. So when is the US banning those?
