If your electrical service/capacity is limited, you can use a splitter/load manager of sort with say, your dryer. So essentially, it is smart enough to give your dryer priority. If it is on, charger is turned off. After 30 mins, when dryer is finished, charger is back on.

That only helps JDMDreams if his existing panel doesn't have enough capacity for a new 240V circuit.
Still need to get new wire out to the garage.

Looking to basically be able to charge 2 EV at once or at least have 240v for faster charging if we get another EV.

Friend was quoted around $6k to run a new line from his panel to his detached garage as 240v requires a different line than 120v. His panel was at the front of the house so it was a longer than usual run and they would have had to dig a trench for it.

Nope, BC Hydro doesn't need to get involved.
Check your panel for spare breaker slots, you need two beside each other, vertically.

I'm thinking cheap because cheaped out on materials! A low voltage guy saw their install on my place and goes why they using indoor rated wires outside the house?! UV is going to break down the shielding........ Another example.... Cops came knocking because they wanted my video footage to read license plates..... Ain't no way in hell you getting that with my set up! But the cop did show me a pic of what one of neighbor submitted and the picture was so much clearer! They use the same hikvison brand, it was a night shot, but their image quality is way better than my day time footage. My image quality is that of a potato camera.

i guess you get what you pay for.... but 600 bucks for an install vs 3000. you can UV degrade the wires all you want since its hiding behind the wall anyways.
P.s. stop snitching to the cops! SNITCHES GETS STITCHES!

I'm in GTA but i'm sure it's all the same - and i'm sure i posted on teh EV forum
1) Plug - $9 versus $90
So my electrician got the EV one of course.
I've seen someone using a 48AMP and it just ruined their dryer plug / melted. It's not used to constantly being removed and plugged in all the time (Dryer is usually 1 time) and only 48 min dryer cycle.
2) COpper versus Aluminum. - so my tech also found out my friend's house was NOT using copper wire for the range /oven.
WHen my guy came, he showed us the actual copper wire. that as good to see.
3)
We were also given this to ensure it's locked - so neighbours can't tamper or remove. We have it inside our garage so i'm ok.
1) $600 to pull wire from panel to garage - 25 ft copper wire + drilling.
2) panel upgrade will be 3000k ish

If it were me, I'd just hardwire the EVSE in. The plug seems redundant and an additional point of failure.
Aluminum wire is also fine if the wiring device is rated for it.

but it gives you flexibility. these hardwired EV chargers all seem to be kinda wonky and bs. The only one i researched i like was the ChargePoint chargers, but even then if they have new tech in the future, youre stuck with an outdated one whereas with a plug you can just change the charger anytime to a different / bettter model.

It's literally two wires, two screw terminals, Not exactly difficult to change...
but maybe I'm coming at this from the perspective of someone who knows electrical so it seems trivial to me.

Yeah 48 AMP versus 40 AMP - hardwire versus plug.
It doesn't mean much but if you have shop / wants a heater in your garage etc (in GTA), then the plug does wonders.
Now, to add to this, to hard wire, if you had to return the charger (esp now that chargers are free + rebates) and then you have to replace / repair, then you gotta thread everything back etc.
I don't want a new model to do this every time. So waht people also do is to take this to their cabins / trailer ... i can barely afford my car let alone having a cabin but i get where they are (snowbirds) are coming from.
I gues its NOT too complex but i aint' touching that. I don't do electrical or gas.

everyone said get hubbell the only trusted outlet and yes the construction seems really good but it was missing an allen for the grd wire to torque into
the cheaper leviton at home depot saved the day
+1 on the flexbility, now i'm curious at a shop heater lol, not that i do any real work but budget vr sim in the winter huh..

Electric heater would be a pig on costs, dawg
Gas unit heater, or window shaker / roll around portable HP, even a permanent installed wall unit

We used the same guys, I've chatted with Arvin extensively and he's incredibly knowledgable.
Our home install was permitted and we did some extra load calcs to get it permitted.

U can chargepoint to NACS and you get the one time AND monthly bc hydro rebate, but we used the Tesla UWC just cuz it didn't require a cable switch to change heads.
Other problem is half the electricians aren't using torque screwdriver to connect terminals for the 14-50 plug so they all start arcing and melting after some time

When you're dealing with that kind of power you definitely want to make sure the wire is in there properly and the terminals are torqued to spec or you'll have a bad time.

For really big service entry lugs, you know like in the kcmil/MCM ranges they sure do (would be an actual torque wrench, not a torque screwdriver). For a little receptacle, nah.

800k. Yup..... 800 fucking grand.
she told her realtor to eat shit and she'll just die in her place now.
