If you have BCAA, there's a $55/mo plan that offers for 275GB data and unlimited calling to and in 64 countries. I'm on this plan and didn't get any extra charges for calling or using data when abroad for months at a time. There are other cheaper discounted plans there as well.

If you're Android user, I heard there is a work around for hotspot if you put certain settings into your phone.

I've never had an add-on to use the hot spot feature on my current and previous phones. I've always wondered what that "add-in" was all about. I've been a lifetime Android user.

It's new that Fido took the hotspot feature away. Ppl report that the toggle switch on your phone disappears.

I rarely even go over my 1GB of data. I only really use my phone or at work, if I'm out I'm doing something more interesting than whatever it is people do with their phones that chews up so much data.

anyone here know anything about digital pianos? I want to get one for my son who is about to turn 4 and seems really into music.
my wife has a bit of piano playing experience.
she insists we get something with "weighted keys" and i'm wondering if that's necessary for a 4 year old who has never played or taken lessons before. Do I need an 88 or can I get a 61 or something.
I wanna get something cheap. Used is what i'm thinking.
Thanks

Truth is 4 yr old doesn't need a weighted key piano BUT since your wife plays and maybe she would like to pick it up again, prob best to get one that is weighted. More 'proper' to learn on. Lots of cheap used ones out there. Hint, just make sure the headphone plug works so that they can play with headphones ... for your peace of mind and sanity.

If you have the space for it, why don't you jump right into a regular upright piano?
When I was curious a few years back, it seemed to me that there is no shortage of people looking to just give away their old / unused regular piano on FBM. You basically just have to pay a mover to move it for you, and I think it can be done for somewhere between $100 - $200+. Salmon's Moving is the big name in moving pianos, but they are a little conservative in the jobs that are willing to take on (in the sense that they won't take on a moving job where the space might be a little tight).
I think 4 yrs old is old enough to start learning how to play the piano, even though most probably start a little later at 5 or 6. And your wife plays too / used to play, so she can also use an actual piano as well.
If you need a piano tuner, I have a very good one that I can recommend as well.

Moving a piano is such a hassle, and if we do decide this is something he wants to take seriuosly, then we'll have to figure out which room it goes, etc etc.
At least a keyboard is a cheap way to get him started, and like someone said earlier, he can use headphones!

We have a Casio full 88 keys with weighted keys. We got it used when the kids first started lessons. It still doesn't feel 100% the same as a real piano, but it's better than the non weighted keys. Our kids' teacher could tell from their playing that they used the weighted keyboards. It's good enough for starting out. We have a Yamaha upright now, with the kids being further into Royal Conservatory levels.
We still have the Casio, kids still play on it for fun.

'real' pianos still need to be tuned and are heavy. we went with digital weighted as well, cheaper and really if you have 88 that's prob enough. ability to plug in is nice but we rarely used it. we had to buy adapters to accommodate a 3.5mm jack though.
at 4 it makes no diff but they may as well get used to pressing down harder and develop form, especially if they're getting lessons at a place that uses a 'real' piano. costco usually has decent pricing on weighted digital pianos, just look for the cheapest 88+ key one. we got one from there that came with a bench.
i like how little space it takes and how easy it is to move. over the years we probably moved it around in 3 diff locations in the house

Depends on what you are trying to achieve. For general piano playing, especially if you are going to do the RCM levels, an upright or, if budget allows and sometimes an used can come up for cheap, a baby-grand, is what I'd suggest because as a player, one'd need to know the intensity that you'd play for any advanced techniques.
Keyboard is something more suitable if kid is into composition. Especially today when everything is digitalized. You actually want something that can connect directly to a PC.
Digital piano sits somewhere in between. I like Nord personally. They play great and it's kinda the industry standard for live-gigs. Sounds great and bullet proof built.
If your kid is just starting, I have an entry level Casio that has been sitting in the storage forever. PM me and you can have it. It's nothing to write home about, but something for my kid to first start playing about 10yrs back.

Check this one out! Free ... won't last long! Gerhard Weintzman. Some hoarder who doesn't even play will pick it up and sell it for like a thousand dollars!
