Seems like a decent deal ... 2018 Golf R, 140K kms, $25K. What else could you get in the $25K range?

Maybe as a drift bitch?? Although from a past automatic I had (now manual) you can never defeat the stability control on the automatics of these cars. You can turn off the nannies and the traction control will stay off when told to, but the stability control will always jump back in and it's probably an open diff which sucks ass. This isn't true of the manuals thankfully.
As an IS300 enthusiast that car has a shit tonne of issues... front end hit 100% they found as cheap of a front bumper replacement as they could, poorly paint matched it, blocked off the fog lights to avoid buying those, bought an eBay grille and slapped the L back on it and got aftermarket headlights.... front right fender is mangled and rusty and there's rust stains on the fron passenger door as well and the rear rocker panel looks like they covered rust with spraypaint.
Engine will never die, but buyer beware lol

I still never got the proposition of an auto is300, the manual swap itself is already $6000-$7000 if you can even find the parts. Then you spend another $10 to overnight parts from Japan to turbo it?
I still occasionally think about a beams mt altezza though but the US legal jacked up all the price.

This is not necessarily accurate anymore, I don’t want to start a symposium on IS300’s in this thread but the WS5 is not a great transmission, parts are rare now and manual IS cost a big premium as you have ascertained… the more popular and cost effective conversion now is the CD009 from Nissan.
If you want to go the turbo route you might as well just spend the $10k on a 2JZGTE with transmission and put that in rather than trying to turbo the existing 2JZGE.
