For me personally, the test drive route was the same last year as this year. I drove a Rivian last year.

Popped into the auto show with my kid today, a few observations:
- It was a packed show, lotta good traffic this year. (Makes sense as I was there on the last day at mid-day)
- Being outdoorsy (real or imagined) is the pitch from most brands particularly for GMC and Chevrolet. Their displays were all full of the off road trims and camping equipment. Other brands were pushing it as well - seemed like everyone had at least a couple cars with all terrain tires. 1% of these buyers will actually do anything outdoors with their cars.
- Step-up heights are getting ridiculous with a lot of brands for their ICE cars. Yeah people want to feel like they can see the road but the visibility out of these SUVs and trucks is terrible. The rear windows are tiny slits and the heights and hoods make it so you can't see the curb or much else in front of you.
- Cadillacs seem to be big for big's sake. Their EVs are all massive for their price but packaged terribly, where'd all the space go?
- The BMW iX3 was getting a tonne of attention and looks a lot better in person than in pictures. People seem to really like it (I dig it).
- Some of the cars that were locked and just for display were odd choices - the GR86 and the Lincoln Nautilus. A few other mid-range cars were also locked.
- Getting in and out of the 3rd row of SUVs is stupid. Give me sliding doors and minivans any day. Awful packaging all around in exchange for a bit more style. Mazda, please bring back the Mazda 5 but a bit bigger.
- Nissan sure has an ugly front end design now.
- Lexus RZ for $80k? What the hell?

I think this is the ugly duckling of the entire Toyota/Lexus/Subaru line up.

I also went to the show today. Didn't get to see too much since I went with friends - they are not interested in Nissan Rogues and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs. I'll probably go alone next year so I can see all the cars I have 0 intention of buying.
Swag-wise I was pretty happy to get a Griots garage goodie bag - in it was a quick detail spray and a nice micofiber cloth. I also lined up for a Subaru cap to add to my collection from previous auto shows. There were Honda water bottles and other goodies, but I didn't need more water bottles at home.
My favorite car at the show was the bz woodland - it is much nicer looking than the Trailseeker.

The Lexus still rides nicer than the bz/solterra, but it's not $1000/mo lease or $30k+luxury tax more.
