Those Apple Silicon machines are truly remarkable - my M1 Macbook is still running chill like day 1 after 5 years of daily use. This is the longest I've daily'd the same laptop and still don't feel the urge to upgrade.

My previous 2019 Pro in comparison heated up like a toaster the moment I thought about hooking it up to an external monitor

We have liftoff! Amazing work from NASA.

-good to see Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen to be on this lunar orbit mission.

The menu for the four astronauts on this mission:

There’s a list of common food items that will be on the spacecraft, including 58 tortillas, wheat flat bread, vegetable quiche, breakfast sausage, couscous with nuts, mango salad, granola, and nuts.

Barbecued beef brisket, broccoli au gratin, spicy green beans, macaroni and cheese, tropical fruit salad, butternut squash, and cauliflower are also on the menu.

Crew members will be able to pick from 10 different beverages as they fly, including coffee, green tea, mango-peach smoothie, chocolate and vanilla breakfast drinks, lemonade, apple cider, and cocoa.

Those who crave a bit more of a kick in their food will be able to choose from five different hot sauces that will be flying in the cabin.

And sweet lovers can grab chocolate, cobbler, cookies, cake, pudding, or candy-coated almonds to get their fix.

At the 3 year mark, when you ask for that update, you're asked "but describe how your work is being affected by the lack of upgrade? ...no i don't agree with that one; what other justifications do you have?"

Though it's been a while since I've had any issues. Since we moved onto the Apple silicon MacBook Pros, it's been a rock-solid experience.
On this note: in the early days at my work, I requested a Microsoft Office license. It went to my director and he asked me why I need it. I said I need to work with spreadsheets. He promptly said "but the Numbers app comes for free on your MacBook, why can't you just use that?"

"But our vendors collaborate with us in .xls!!"

"Ok, so convert those into .numbers."

The other is just kind of a floater inside the house when I want to surf on the couch or whatever. I used to use my work laptop all the time for this, but now I don't need to. They started locking so much shit down that it had become a pain.
2 companies I worked for were VERY LOCKED down on work laptop. No gmail, no whatsapp, no USB, heck we could barely use FB messenger. Both company I was dealing with sensitive info so I totally get it. 1 of them I had to get vetted up to NATO-specific requirements.

I push everything via my work laptop to the max, docking station, dual monitor 34 inch ultrawide with all other gadgets. Not a huge issues, but I think everyone I see at work (during share screens), people have like 30 tabs opened, 14 spreadsheets ... normal i5 won't do it no more.

Lastly, battery does make a huge difference, i used to only last 1.5 hrs, now my laptop is 5+ hrs no problem... and it's just a dell

So what you're saying, is that you're not the "General light duty use" scenario I outlined lol.

Light duty imo means Macbook Air.
Macbook Air can do 2x 4k external monitors at 60hz AND use its internal monitor for $999.
That's the new baseline.

If a windows laptop can't do that while plugged in with max performance, we have problems.
The only time I went back to Macbook Pro was when I was driving 4 claude code instances on my local machine.
Now that we're using remote machines, I'm back on the Air.

I'll take your word for it, I've never used a Mac outside of an apple IIe in grade school.

In other news, looks like Artemis is having space toilet problems lol.

^Looks like that's been restored - weird to see a mission update talking about a spaceship t toilet

https://www.nasa.gov/blogs/missions/...orions-toilet/

Quote:
The Artemis II crew, working closely with mission control in Houston, were able to restore the Orion spacecraft’s toilet to normal operations following the proximity operations demonstration.

Ahead of the apogee raise burn on April 1, the Artemis II crew reported a blinking fault light and mission control teams successfully assessed the data and worked with the crew to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

The crew now will take a four-hour nap and be awakened at 7 a.m. EDT on Thursday, April 2, to prepare for the perigee raise burn. This burn will lift the lowest point of Orion’s orbit around Earth. Together with the apogee raise burn completed earlier, these burns shape the spacecraft’s initial orbit and prepare it for later translunar operations. The crew members then will resume their sleep period around 9:40 a.m.

Yeah I just randomly jumped into the live stream yesterday and the conversation between CAPCOM and the crew was:

CAPCOM: "So it's up to you if you want to dump the CCU today or tomorrow"
CREWMEMBER: "We'd certainly like to dump it today!"

Then I googled what a "CCU" was: Contingency Collapsible Urinal

No doubt you'd want to dump it today LOL

I knew Apple was ahead but I just checked the numbers again:

The Macbook Neo, which is an iPhone with a big screen is FASTER on every crossmark benchmark than the usual windows laptops on Intel and AMD

I actually saw Linus on my plane to Seoul last month, I guess he and his family were flying there on holidays. What surprised me the most is his seats were way at the back of Economy.
