TBH, that is probably what needs to happen to be long term contenders and not just have a one and done future cinderella run again, or stuck being an annual 1st/2nd round team for a window and nothing to show for.

I think someone forgot Yamamoto, Puljujarvi, Yakupov, Paajarvi .. granted Hall, Eberle turned out to be OK players but even in that long stretch of basement dwelling, there were some huge misses in the 1st round drafts for the Oilers.

Bedard is still on his ELC and is 1.11ppg this season, that's crazy if they give up on him so soon.
I think a realistic timeline of events would be that he signs an 8 year deal with Chicago this summer and if they still suck in 4 to 6 years, that's when they blow it up (or he demands a trade) and we have a shot at him while we are on the upswing (hopefully).

So the Habs, Sens (coached by Travis Green!), and Oilers will represent Canadian teams. Also surprised that Mammoth Utah, a 2nd yr team made it into playoffs. Reminds me of Vegas & Seattle.
Maybe cheer for Habs in the East and Oilers in the West? Cannot cheer for a team with a Tkachuk.

I mean after they secured the worst record in the league, no need to 'tank' any more. No one will be upset if they win ... you can't go any further down in terms of rankings or move any higher in the draft. So go and do your best and be spoiler.
