Nah, I just got burned enough times that it was the better option
Seriously, it's even cheaper at $55/mo now as a BCAA member (go Access Offers -> Bring Your Own Device).

I got a similar plan but it was $40 when freedom had that sale. They improved a lot and I actually have better reception where I live compared to telus. So far so good, I used it all over asia and works fine. It only uses LTE when roaming but I dont mind it.
I find these endless esim providers shady and when you use it it’s using a HK/singapore/thailand sim so it’s nice to not worry about using esim anymore.
Also I used redwireless once and everything ported over fine but I started getting a ton of spam calls after so im suspicious lol

Personally, I am done with these weirdo eSIM plans. I got a GigSky one, or something like that, and they route their data all the way back to some Eastern Bloc country, so I was like, okay, nope. The data was so slow, 56K dial up was faster.

Oh, this is helpful ... I thought eSim were all the same. So reliability and speed are things to look for in a review.

They are all subjective so your mileage may vary. Since RS is baller (aka radeonboy) I would spring for a domestic plan (Canadian carrier) and get a travel pass if not already included. Solves for most of the first world problems we have on RS.

I had no issues with Saily when I was travelling, the price was reasonable and there are a ton of discount codes you can use.

I've seen Saily being promoted by Youtubers, might give it a try next vacation. I've been using Airalo and it's been ok, perhaps a bit slow in Japan.

Been using Airalo for about 4 years now in 8 different countries. Worked well so far. Though prices seemed to have creeped up over the past year or so.
As for 2FA SMS aren't receiving texts free even internationally? It's only when sending texts does it cost extra money
e-sims for data only
keep your phone number for text, calling, etc.

Just disable your data on your CAN sim and use data only on your travel sim. Easy setting on your device. Turn off the auta data switching. Inbound SMS should be free on all carriers while roaming. Sending SMS triggers charges.
Worked for me the last 2 years of trips to Taiwan/HK/Japan/Singapore/China.

We just went to Japan. And like 679 said, it's less about going to HK and more about just seeing people. I was born in HK, and I'd say a lot of my happiest memories are from HK so there's a sense of home there. As the older generation passes away, there will be a time where we will go very little as there's just not much reason anymore.

I went with Nomad for my most recent trip to Asia. But I do the same, turn off data from Fido and turn on esim for data. Keep the Fido Sim running as secondary to keep texts and whatsapp going..... But someone told me I could have fully turned off Fido and still keep WhatsApp going....... When I came back, Fido charged me couple times for data usage, had to dispute it, but they did refund me the charges.

????
Whatsapp uses data, not your phone number, the phone number is just a "login"
Whatsapp is the equivalent of RS, doesnt matter what network your on, your user ID is your phone number
I personally remove my sim once i hit the airplane, then get a sim at the location, no charges when i return. Same as SSM stated above

I mean why would fido charge for whatsapp use if he's switched it off data and uses his esim?
Anyways does anyone use Rogers Roam Like Home? So apparently I get 5 free days per calendar year from my Rogers Mastercard. I linked it to my Rogers Mobile account already. Do I have to switch it on or do I just use it? Thinking of using it for 5 days and then switching to an esim for an upcoming trip.

The data usage according to Fido was that a tower in Asia got pinged or something because the usage was less than a mb or something. I left my sim on thinking it needed the phone number to keep WhatsApp going, but sounds like I'm wrong.
