I think people are starting to catch on that these conservative parties are not offering any ideas or solutions to the modern problems we're facing. Conservatism by its very nature is archaic in many ways to how quickly and dynamic the modern world is becoming.
Look at the elections in Hungary, the backlash against Trump by even people on the right, and now the massive drop in popularity of the Conservatives here in Canada.
People are realizing these guys don't have any ideas, they're just corrupt bastards trying to continue to enshrine the status quo.
I don't know what took so long, the whole idea of the conservatism branch of politics is status quo. When it's business as usual, I can see why, but unfortunately right now is not business as usual. And good old days isn't solely dictated by rules and laws, and you can't legislate the good ol' days back.
The greatest thing JT ever did as PM was resign when he did.
The second greatest thing he ever did was get eye fucked by both Melania and Ivanka.
The rest was a mess.
I'd say the second greatest thing is being fucked by Katy Perry.

He fucked up by not being able to change direction after JT resigned. Still yapping about someone who isn't relevant anymore isn't a good look for someone claiming they can lead the country.

They didn't even have a platform until after advance voting had already opened, despite being the ones unofficially campaigning and calling for an election for several years.

well he was refreshing compared to the BORING harper conservative government. So glad he ran against conservative and won - what did he really do after that... I can't remember (then again what did each PM do). He did do a boo boo when calling out Xi Jing Ping at the China dinner and then he was also caught between Huawei and then COVID and then the indian police trail killing some leader... all that just didn't do well.
He restarted Canadian Coast Guard back on track and re-opened bases… marijuana… lots of park protection…. Those are some highlights I guess. I thought his navigating of Covid from a public facing perspective was pretty decent up until the awful trucker convoy shit went down, that was totally mishandled.
For some reason Canada's data isn't available but Google tells me that govt spending in Canada is about 40-42% of GDP which is below average and just slightly higher than the US. It's crazy how much the US spends on health care (the data doesn't show private spending which is also huge) - it's just so inefficient compared to everyone else. At the same time they don't spend as much on the military as I expected - just 3%, it's just that they've been doing it for so long that they've built up huge reserves in weapons.
I've been spending a lot of time around defence people lately and it's quite interesting. The whole Canada needs to spend more on defence thing, because the "US" is supplementing our defence is such a pile of shit.
Things I didn't know, Canada had a nuclear weapons program until 1960, where it was disbanded under the US pressure so that they could provide defence for NA. Fact check on this shows that Canada was part of a NATO Nuclear program that had US nukes.. but never had it's own nukes ?? Any defence ppl here to clarify?
America thinks that by demanding an increase of defence spend, that they would get more defence business... but in turn, we and everyone else just purchased from more people aside from America. Exception to F15s, apparently we need those.
America is run like a corporation and blind to unintended consequences lol. Canada and Europe is run like a society. Americans like to say they pay less taxes, but in reality, the difference of Canadian tax (in VA) is 3-5% each year, without the added benefit of a decent public school system and healthcare. Anecdotally, on this one example I heard, someone in VA spends $30K/yr x2 for 2 kids to go to private school, and $20K/yr on private healthcare insurance for a family of 4. That's a 80K/yr tax LOL. The US is good if you're rich.... all those ppl in Alberta that want US health care... it's shit and unaffordable.
Unrelated to politics ish, but lol:
"Oh, literally here at the oceanfront in Virginia beach, there's a curfew for the rest of April, Friday and Saturday nights. Because even for Americans, there's been too much gun violence here recently. More murders. So Hampton Roads is about the size of Ottawa. 1.2, 1.4 Million. There'll be more murders in Hampton Roads this year than there will be in all of Canada. "

Yes Canada hosted US nukes on our soil until the 80's.
Canada is a Nuclear Threshold state, we have all the expertise and materials to build Nukes fairly quickly if we wanted to. The USA would never "let us" have them, which is pretty telling of who we actually need to be wary of...l

Didn't we buy some WWII subs from the UK or something, and required millions more to bring them up to modern spec? RIP
No, not WW2 era. Upholder class uilt by the UK in the 80s. They're all in active service now. We have 3 of them stationed at CFB Esquimalt. I see them all the time when I need to go down to work at the base.
They were giving the public tours of the Corner Brook last October at the Navy open house day, missed my chance for a ticket!
Got to tour the Frigate HMCS Vancouver instead, so that was pretty cool. They even let the kids hold the machine guns.
