The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare [2024] - 6/10
It started off pretty good but then got a bit too Hollywood, which was a shame because the actual events it's loosely based on are very interesting. I don't like Alan Ritchson either so that didn't help.
woah, i didn't even see this. Alan Ritchson and Henry both couldn't save the film.. wow...

Caught Stealing [2025] - 8/10
It was a lot darker than I had expected, the trailer had me thinking there would be more comedy to it, but it was an excellent watch. The plot kept me guessing in a good way, at one point I had to pause it and figured I was likely near the end but was surprised to see I was only about halfway despite how much had been happening. They also added some realistic reactions to violence which was a nice change.
I knocked off one point because the title has caused me to have the terrible Janes Addiction song with the same title stuck in my head for the last couple days.

Hamnet - (which is actual Hamlet - interchangeable as per explanation at the first 10 sec of movie)
No one will ever watch this movie. It's Shakespare. Actual shakespare playing the role. It's different yes. It's beautiful as very rustic but it doesn't compare to Frankenstein.
The only thing I have to say is that Jessie Buckley did deserve best actress in the movie. She was so down to earth, so pure, so normal which you can feel her playing the role of a gardener.
She was competing with Rose Byrne, If I Had Legs I'd Kick You - total crap
Kate Hudson - Song Sung Blue - she did do VERY VERY well and she was a close contender.
Renate Reinsve Sentimental Value - did not watch yet
Emma Stone was good in Bugonia but was not as good as those 4 ladies above.
All in all, i can't suggest anyone to watch this. It's too TIFF / VIFF feel so I doubt anyone would appreciate.
As for director, Chloé Zhao, i only know her in Eternals and man that sucked. I'm surprised after all this she got a chance to direct and write this. Long story short.. I did not enjoy her movies despite it's artistic.
woah woah.. was the 50cent as balrog?
I barely got a glismp of E honda (he looks skinny) LOL
I still can't tell which character is missing.
Depends who you deem necessary to be included but off the top of my head Sagat is the biggest omission. Others perhaps Fei Long, Dee Jay, and T Hawk, Sakura, and Birdie?

44th Hong Kong Film Awards came out - the worse movie (one directed by Juno Mak) actually got nominated with tons of awards. It did do well with the look and feel of the movie but the story just sucked. Director must be super sad knowing it bombed yet everyone else BUT the director got any praises.
This movie below won best actress and wow as it good.
Someone Like Me - this is NOT YOUR traditional movie. It's VERY VERY weird.
Girl got cerebral palsy at a young age and thru networking met this group that offers sexual help to people who are in need. 3 times, with different partners as a service to help people with handicapp to experience 'things'. *spoiler alert* - it's not an authorized / accredited service in HK (but hoping to be).
WHAT a weird and niche cult film. A very sensitive topic esp in Hong Kong and you KNOW it won't even make money. Lead actress acted extremely well as well as the actor did. It's a movie about dating / love and you sort of fall of the two people.
The guy offering this service fell into this job because his sister was also once handicapped. Long story short. At the end the two spends a night together as a couple and ended up in the hospital (seizure).
The director laid out a great line. "why is it ok for you to rent a love hotel legit and normal, yet just cause someone who looks weird like me with cerebral palsy quickly jumps to a conclusion that the guy raped me."
I thought the movie was great - super niche audience and wow the acting of the actress was just amazing. Bravo for winning.
I threw up in my mouth a little at the idea that a dude came up with the idea of helping people sexually after being inspired by his sister...............................
The Bride!- this movie will lose and have lost a lot of money - 90 M budget but coming back with 20 M in ticket sales.
Jessie Buckley was great, it was 180 in Hamnet and then plays this crazy weird novel. Let me see what failed. 1) it's a gothic romance film, sort of cult, and a bit weird 2) Directed and written by Maggie Gyllenhaal.
3) The cast - which only had a few scenes and didn't get fully utilized to the fullest- Christian Bale, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penélope Cruz.
I have the director to blame - when it works it works, when it doesn't, it just crashes cause they are so into their visions.
SUper boring, story / romance love story was bad and there just was not exciting despite a bit of a good cast with good filming.
I doubt it'll even make it to netflix.. just let it die.

Seriously, I thought this was pretty good. Yah, only had Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton and both did solid jobs on this. Charlize is really the last blonde who aged well (50 yr old now) and diversified her portfolio in acting different movies. Yeah, some really good (Fast and furious was the launch, Bombshell, Long Shot (rom com w/ seth R, so good), Mad Max; and some bad (old guard 2 Atomic Blonde etc)
Simple formula movie - girl hikes in the wild and meets serial killer. Not rocket science since there is only Taron Egerton. I really liked him in the film, no spoilers, but it was good to see him leaning out so much for the film.
Now, I never really liked him at Kingsman, Tetris (so good), but he was decent in Rocketman, and Carry On was pretty legit (more so cause the script was good).
All in all, since I'm a rock climber at Squamish eons ago, some of the mistakes (10 mins into the movie) was so stupid, and all the rock climbing scene I thought was cheesy - eg// massive fall 3-4 times on a multi pitch climb and still using the same rope, and climbing on overhang multiple times. We all know even with indoor climbing.. after 3-4 climbs man, it gets tiring...
Some of the chasing and extreme kayaking was cool and the pacing was fast enough for me to look thru so loop holes...

SUCH AN AMAZING movie... Based on a true story about a boy who has severe Tourette syndrome. Boy who came from a crappy family in the 80s - family had a tough time dealing with this as it first started. Then teenage years.. being SUPER lonely...
Boy was rescued by a social worker who helps him find his path of being independence while dealing with the police, society and finding a job... all these were great real situations John has to deal with.
You feel for the character, you feel uplifted, you want him to succeed and you want him to fit in and in a two hour movie, things are coming is left right and center. Towards the 1/4 of the movie, it all comes together and your heart is full of warmth.
To preface, the 1st 2 mins of a scenes sets you up for a happy ending so it's good it's not a dark comedy or a tragic story.
Lead, Robert Aramayo, has a strong Scottish accent but if you get thru that, it's realyl really worth the watch.. I never watched his other roles Lord of the rings but man he did a solid in this film. He won British Independent Film Awards beating out a lot of solid actors.
