i second la bodega. i've only tried five spanish restaurants in vancouver: el patio on cambie, casa sleigh in steveston (i think they're closed now), marbella's on robson (they're closed now too), la ventana somewhere in gastown, and la bodega - and la bodega is by far the BEST. yum yum!

it's been a good couple years... is La Bodega still good for good paella? Anyplace serve excellent paella?
I'm also just looking for good Spanish cuisine in general in Vancouver... anyone?

Wow, old thread! Saw some names I haven't seen in forever!
Despite the fact that some may be convinced that La Bodega is the de-facto go-to place for Spanish cuisine (most may not agree however) I have tried paella at Havana on The Drive. I've had a paella in Ibiza, Spain so comparing it to what is served at Havana isn't the world's best but it's easy to get to and the price is right. I cannot compare to La Bodega as I have not been there.

I've had La Bodega and its alright, but I found it a bit dry. Unlike most places around Vancouver, like Locus on Main and Havana on Commercial, La Bodega at least makes the Paella properly in a pan with crusting rice on the bottom.
The best paella I've had was at Taberna del Alabardero in downtown Seattle. Its made in true fashion and takes quite a while to come out after ordering (30 minutes or longer). What comes out is a real treat though.

^ that looks real nice... it's a shame it's not in vancouver and it seems like it's tough to find good paella out here. =/
