I really like the D-Link DIR-655 ... I've set up dozens and all of them have worked well, you have tons of configuration options, and has decent performance.
If you're looking for a cheap router, the DIR-615 Revision C1 works fairly well for around $50. Only downside is you can't update the firmware if it comes w/ FW 3.01 (I have no idea how these haven't been recalled for this issue yet, but it still works fine). The age-old WRT54GL is a solid low-cost option if you're tech-savvy.
The Linksys WRT400N has really good wireless range/performance. I personally hate Linksys's browser configuration, though, so I'm not a huge fan of it (that and it lacks GbLAN, not that it matters to most, but it matters to me).
