Yeah I'm surprised that the engine didn't blow up. That happened to a Chrysler we had back in tha day.. and we only went 3000km over. (ie 8000km instead of 5000km)  Cylinders ate the walls. That was the last time we ever trusted my sister with a car.

when i was working at mr lube...
one guy in a 530i didnt change it for 50k kms. he blamed us for engine damage. i LOL'ed. he thought synthetic= 50k per a change.
he ended up choking on his engine bill.
