Bloom Box - A Power Plant for the Home
Basically, this fuel cell can power your home and save you tons of money every year. It's an old technology (fuel cell) reinvented to be green tech. It will take 1 or 2 fuel cells to power your house. And they say 64 cells to power a small business. Big names like Google and Wal-Mart have started testing these out and are already saving them huge $$$.
What this means to you? Cheaper bills!
What this means to the world? Remote villages can be powered easily. The possibilities are endless!

for $3000 I'm in ... average 30ish months to pay off the box .. then the rest is free ... minus fuel costs of course ... with a life span of what ? 30 years or so ... this make so much sense it's scary

How are you going to get fuel to the remote village to power it?
It seems like a great idea on paper but they are only making one box a day and it costs $700000. Who knows if they will be able to mass produce this.

Or install them at power sub stations and sell the electricity to customers.
It would be cheaper than building new power plants ans lessen line loss the power lost with electricity traveling over long distances.

The actual fuel cells are nothing more than beach sand and "special" ink that the head guy invented. And even the housing is cheap materials. The unit is robust and can use a wide array of renewable energy to power it. I believe that is what he said in the video.
Anyways, it only costs $700,000 now because they don't have the means to mass produce. Obviously, when you get to the mass production stage, you will find ways to produce it cheaper just like any other manufactured product.

It requires Carbon as a fuel source. So you can't just drop it anywhere and expect it to run. There is also more to it than sand and magic paint.

interesting.
i think the biggest obstacle is fuel still
bio-fuels, natural gas, hydrogen, they're all still very costly... not to mention the last 2 aren't even carbon neutral
i think at best, this will only complement the grid in the next 15 to 20 years

Buy going public they mean showing the public there product not selling stocks. The main reason Google and Ebay are using Bloom box is because the venture capital company that gave them money when they started up also gave Bloom $100 million.
