wimbledon marathon
from yahoo news
Quote:

After ten hours, 153 games and almost 1,000 points, American John Isner and Frenchman Nicolas Mahut were locked at 59-59 in the fifth-set of their historic first-round match at Wimbledon when play was suspended for the second straight day due to darkness.

I went to check the tennis scores at like 9:30 today, and when I saw 31-30, I was like... WUT?! Then I went on the Talk Tennis forums and followed the thread the rest of the morning...
It's beyond epic... we're not talking about merely breaking many records... we're talking about complete obliteration of the records.

Should start at 3:30pm local time, and it's 9am there now, so that would make it 7:30am here... hmm... might try to wake up early to catch some of it...

Actually, not very many at all!
Well, since Isner served first, only he would have actual match points... Mahut would only have break points, which of course would be virtual match points.
Isner only had FOUR match points on Mahut's 59 service games.
Mahut only had TWO break points on Isner's 59 service games.
That's how dominant each of their service games were in relation to the other's receiving game.

Or a sign of how tired they were so they gave it all on the serve to avoid rallies.

The match was only EPIC in terms of length, the quality of tennis was nowhere in the sense of EPIC. Yes, I understand they were tired, they were conserving their energy for their serve, but they didn't put any effort at all on their return game.
It was actually quite a snoozer and although it demolished the match length and aces record, i wouldn't even consider this to be in the top 100 matches of all time.

Shit quality play. Neither one of those guys could receive a serve worth shit. Something like 200+ aces in the game.

He just lost 6-0, 6-3, 6-2 in the shortest match of the tournament so far... he had nothing left.
