langara question...withdrawing from course..
Just got a quick question, its actually for my sister, I don't go to langara so im not too sure how their policy works. Due to some personal reasons she isnt doing too well in her her 2 courses she registered in this semester. I suggested to her to withdraw from them before day of withdrawal (oct 29th) since she is most likely going to fail it anyways and its a core class that she will need to take again maybe next semester or summer. W is better than a fail anyways right?....anyways i was looking at the schedule for term 2 and it says the course has max repeat of 2....does withdrawing from it count as 1 time? so she only has one last chance when she takes it again next year?

Withdrawing does NOT count. She can withdraw now. Fail next semester and still be able to try 1 more time after that.

Better to get a W than "FAIL" on the transcript. The Fail will screw up her GPA.

thanks for the quick reply
ya i actually graduated from ubc a couple years ago...i know at ubc say you fail the first time with 40% and the next time you take the course u get 80%, the mark they will use is the average of the two which is 60%. Thats why if you can, its wiser to just take the W and the second time you take it and get 80% they use the full 80%
i'm assuming its the same at langara?

Your best bet is to call ubc because most of the counselors won't help you (based on personal experience).
