Question about Sanding/Painting Trunk Lip Spoiler.
Hey guys,
I have a trunk lip spoiler that is currently silver. I want to paint it black. Is it necessary that I get it sanded and painted by a body shop? How much would this cost me?
Is this something I an easily do myself? Just trying to get some info on this.
Installing it on my car will be easy as I will just use double-sided 3M tape.
Thanks in advance.

You can do this easily yourself.. the hardest part will be paint matching the color. If all your going for is generic black then follow this step. Get a fine grit sandpaper and scuff the paint so it's not shiny anymore. Wet sanding would be best and be sure you don't leave any grooves from the sandpaper or they will be very noticeable You don't have to remove the old paint just scuff the clearcoat so that there are no shine left to it. Then spray on the new black color. Use LIGHT coats of paint. Do NOT try to cover it all in one pass. It's better to do 4-5 light coats than 1 or 2 thick ones. Be sure to allow lots of drying time between coats. You can get clearcoat spray as well but I never use it on my DIY's.
If it's not a perfect fit on the trunk then 3M tape might not be enough to hold it on. If it is then it should be ok.
Berz out.

3m di-noc carbon fibre vinyl will probably cost under $20, or vinyl for a bit less
If your car isn't black to begin with no need to worry about paint matching IMO

Thanks Berz,
and no, my car isn't black, it's white, however I want the trunk lip spoiler to match with kidney grills but I don't think that should be too difficult.
Just out of curiosity though, approximately how much would a shop charge me?

after labour and taxes and stuff, anywhere from 100-200?
if you trust yourself enough, just go grab a can of paint and DIY it. no need to worry about paint matching either so a DIY (provided you can do it well) is your best option
