Test drive turns deadly with car salesman at wheel
PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - A Pennsylvania car salesman who drove 100 mph during a test drive to show his customers "how it's done" but crashed, killing one of them, faces criminal charges, police said.
Michael Hershey, 48, was expected to surrender imminently to police, defense attorney Janice Longer said on Saturday.
He is charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and recklessly endangering another person.
Police said Hershey had a blood alcohol level of .06, below the legal limit of .08, and tested positive for marijuana use.
The December 30 accident killed Jon Christian Jensen, 48, who with his son, Tyler, 20, joined Hershey in a test drive of a Mitsubishi Lancer from Imports of Lancaster County, a dealership in East Petersburg, Pennsylvania.
Tyler Jensen drove first, but Hersey took the wheel to "show you how it's done," police said the son told them.
He told police Hershey was driving at about 100 mph when a truck pulled onto the road in East Hempfield Township. Hershey hit the brakes and swerved, and the car hit an embankment and rolled into a field, the son told police.
Police said when they arrived, the elder Jensen was dead, his son was tending to him and Hershey complained of chest pains.
The Lancaster County District Attorney's office filed charges against Hershey earlier this week.

Thats unfortunate... if nothing had happened, the son probably would have had a cool story to tell on his local car forum of how the car salesman opened her up and let it rip... but now, not so much.
