I highly recommend you spend the extra money for the f1.4.
I had two f1.8s and both broke from regular use and storage. One of them just came apart in my hands. Not from any particular force but it literally snapped in half when I picked it up. The plastic construction reflects the price.
The f1.4 is much heavier and well made. Spend the money for quality rather than buying a new f1.8 when yours inevitably breaks.

If you can come across one cheap (seen them as low as $80~ on CL..rare) then pick it up. The cheap construction may leave much to desire, but for the small size.. it can't be beat.
If you can wait though, definitely save the money for the 1.4.
In the end it's what you see that makes the picture really.

Exactly what Ronin said, I had to exchange the lens one week after purchasing cause it started developing a small crack inside.. I have no idea how the hell that happened.
