Computer Audio
I have a computer hooked up to my receiver. It is a Pioneer 1019.
I was trying to get the receiver to do all the decoding of the audio signal. Right now my computer seems to be doing the decoding and sending a PCM signal to the receiver.
I have tried looking online but haven't found any information that was of any help.
If anyone has any knowledge about this stuff or knows how to set it up properly please help me out.
Thanks.

Currently, I don't have a sound card. I have HDMI hooked up to the video card which goes to the receiver. The video card is a Powercolor HD5770. I do have the latest drivers installed.
The website lists the following features for audio for the video card:
Integrated HD audio controller
Output protected high bit rate 7.1 channel surround sound over HDMI with no additional cables required
Supports AC-3, AAC, Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio format

I think your best bet is to check the ATI forums on that. ATI drivers are buggy as crap sometimes. Have you tried running it from your pc to receiver using an optical cable?

I haven't tried using an optical cable yet. Shouldn't it be the same as an hdmi cable though?
I will check out the ATI forums as well.

how do you know your computer is doing the decoding?
does it sound really bad at the moment? do you foresee a big difference in sound quality or is it utilizing a high % of CPU right now?
i run my own thru toslink at the moment, but it was indistinguishable to my ears on hdmi. if you really want to be picky you can run a usb->dac and then run a coax/toslink from there. i'm not sure what other sound equipment you have or what you listen to ...
