Advice on buying a $150-200 camera
Hello,
I've gone through 10 pages of the top sticky thread, but I'm even more confused than ever.
So here's the thing: I'm looking to buy a $150-200 toss around multi-use camera for a friend's birthday. The friend is a semi-pro photographer but most times he's tired of lugging around his SLR. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about cameras so any advice about which one to get and where would be much appreciated.
Thanks again.

i don't think any $150 camera, point & shoot or otherwise, will come close to what a "semi-pro" would find usable.

the closest you'll get to a good p+s is a used S90 on CL. Of course, I can't recommend buying a used camera for a gift.

Your friend would probably want something like 3-400 range as your range doesn't get you much. Maybe you should get him something for his dslr instead.

You're right, the S95 is a very good camera.
Should I buy it from Broadway Camera or Kerrisdale Camera?

if you have the time - you can order it from Amazon.com - send it to Pt Roberts.
It's $340, but you could potentially save a decent chunk of money if customs doesn't charge HST on it.
$359.99 + HST = $403.
Depends on if you're willing to drive down to the states to pick it up though.

i know receiving a physical gift is always better but the s100 is almost (already?) out and i'd totally spend the extra $50+ and get that instead, assuming the digic5 and ND filter attracts you. maybe a gift card?
