National Do Not Call List
Does the National Do Not Call list actually work? I remember signing up for it as soon as it was launched.
For the past month pretty much 80% of the calls I receive from my home phone is some sort of automated message, some random static or some telemarketing offer. Usually happens mid afternoon. For example, just now I received two separate calls one with an automated message and one with just empty static over a span of 10 minutes. It's getting to the point where its quite annoying.
Dad has a home office so a land line is necessary so cancelling it is not an option.
Anyone else experiencing a similar issue or have solutions?

If a call is indeed a telemarketing offfer, report it! Get the name of the company and their number, and take down the time and date.
https://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/plt-cmp-eng
If the company is found to have violated the DNCL (to which they are bound to by law), they can be fined thousands of dollars.
Keep in mind that the DNCL doesn't stop calls related to marketing research, polls, or surveys.

I remember reading the dnc list only applies to Canadian telemarketers. Out of country companies can buy the list of phone numbers and call you. So really it doesn't work and makes it worst.

wasn't there some limited period of time your number would stay on the list? and after that time your number would be taken off unless you reregistered

Yeah your right and lots of Canadian telemarketers use the list and route their call to the US before calling your number and that way they bypassed the list, totally defeating the purpose.

+1 I never register my home phone. If it is a 1800 number or a number with no caller ID I just don't pick up.
On my cell phone I have a Block call apps any phone with 1800, or no name I put the put on the block list. They just get the busy tone.
