need laptop, budget 600
something thin with windows 7
13" or higher
just doing regular shit with it: word processing, browsing, downloading
good resolution would be nice
emphasis on thin. would my options be limited given that requirement?

acer aspire v5 and downgrade to windows 7 windows 7 machines are hard to come by now with microsoft's push of win8...unfortunately
1" thin, 14" screen, intel i3, 8gb of ram, decent screen res at 1366x768, for 499. leave a bit of the budget for the taxes!
...wait don't we have an electronic section?

my gf just bought a laptop with windows 8, she took the time to set it up accordingly and properly with her username/microsoft id and everything else, but in the end, it's just too buggy and unorganized as an OS. she went back to windows 7 after 2 days, but i'd say try it out and see if it works for you.
i'm typing this on an acer netbook that's been my machine for school for 3 years now (january 2010), i've dropped it, lost a trim piece, but it still runs fine (even with windows7homeprem w/aero effects) without any hiccups. even the battery still lasts 5.5 hours (used to be 7 hours). i bought the extended warranty but never used it. they do look cheap though...plastics and all, but if you just need it to work on, then it's a good bet.
