Google Chromebooks
Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone else has picked up a Chromebook recently and cared to chime in on their experience so far
I went to the Best Buy beside Metrotown today and picked up the Samsung Chromebook for myself and bought my brother the C7 Acer Chromebook
After using it for 2 hours, I feel pretty happy with my purchase. I'm on my Chrome browser almost 95% of the time so I realized the Chromebook suited my needs really well. It will be mostly used for school work, I couldn't stand carrying around my heavy/bulky 6-7lb laptop with me every single day.
My battery at 85% right now says it will last an additional 5+ hours. I'm very greatful for the outstanding battery life it's showing at the moment, and it weighs super light. Runs smooth no complaints so far
For anyone else who doesn't know what the Chromebook is, it's practically the Google Chrome browser which is the only thing running on this little laptop. Super clean interface, no bloatware, no junk, but is somewhat limiting if there isn't a certain application available for the Chrome Browser. Also uses cloud-storage so there isn't really a physical "hard drive" even though it comes with one

At the moment I don't think one can run iTunes on the Chromebooks as there's no support for it.
Music is streamed using cloud-storage (I'm using Google Drive to play my music at the moment). I believe there's a Google application that allows one to transfer all of their music library to Google Drive, but it can't sync with an iPod/iPad/iPhone

Paid ~$585 for both the Samsung and Acer
If you pick up the Samsung alone I believe all the taxes and fees should total it to ~$303
I originally wanted to pick up 2 Samsung Chromebooks but there was only one left, I'll be exchanging the Acer one for another Samsung in a couple of days. The battery life on the Samsung is much better than the Acer as well as being much lighter.
Paying the $20 more for the Samsung is well worth it

The only Chromebook that I really want is the Pixel. And then I'd probably stick Ubuntu on it.
Nice concept but still too limited to be a real laptop.

I agree with roastpuff. I know the form factor isn't right but I would much prefer a basic android tablet with more functionality. Forced to use Google Drive for my .doc and .ppt assignments would have been a formatting nightmare when I was in school.
