Exhaust Rust
I tried to search this, but no results.
Also didn't know if this is the right place to post it, but saw a couple threads talking about exhausts here.
So I was helping my friend change her tires and I saw that there was a bit of rust building up on her exhaust. I thought it couldn't be that hard to fix so I said I'd help her out. Anyways, I just wanted to ask what are my options on fixing this.
Should I just remove the piping, replace the gasket, sand the rust off the actual pipes and use ceramic heat resistant paint? Or is there an alternative way where I don't have to paint it and change the color from it's "steel" color to black? (I can't think of any, unfortunately).
On the side note: I've heard that putting on exhausts, especially dual pipes by yourself without someone helping align them when you bolt them back on they usually end up crooked/uneven? I've replaced my own exhausts and they were even, but I just wanted to make sure so she doesn't get mad if it does happen after I fix it.
Thanks
Here's the rust:

nothing to worry about, but if it bothers you can just use a scotchbrite (red one) and just sand the rust off. spray hightemp spraypaint to protect it.

Yeah I told her that it's such a little amount of rust it doesn't need attention. But seemed like she was worried so might as well. Time to go to crappytire for some ceramic spray paint and sand paper.

I won't use ceramic spray on surfaces you haven't cleaned properly (ie by removing the whole shooting match), not to mention now you introduce heat variances.. and probably will void the emission warranty (since the tail pipe is part of the system).
It is surface rust that comes with every season.. take the car away for a few days.. scrub it down with some scotch brite on day 1 (or better use a 3000+psi pressure washer).. wait a few days.. said it was hard work.. and wait for your friend to give you some special TLC?

Sounds like a good plan haha, googled how ceramic paint would hold up on car exhausts a lot say they crack after a few days.
So I shouldn't use any type spray paint at all?

leave it. thats normal nothing to worry about and you could be opening a whole can of pita for nothin. Unless your tryin to get some nooky outta this then go for it. But I'd find somethin else to fix on her car that really needs it to get the nooky

But he's already pointed it out to the she-friend, and now she'll resent him forever if he doesn't fix it.
Or at least pretend to
