DUI / Criminal record check / Driving offence question
So I have a interview for a huge communication company next week and i am wondering how long a DUI stays on your record for. After the Aptitude test they want me to have a Criminal Record check and Drivers abstract check.
I was a complete moron and drove buzzed when I was 18 and got a DUI. I am now 26 and I have absolutely nothing on my record and I have zero traffic offenses. it has been over 8 years with that being the only thing so I hope it doesn't matter/show up.
The position involves me having a company vehicle and dealing with customers. Will it appear on their check? I worked for another company doing the exact same thing and I told them about my DUI and they didn't care because it didn't even effect their insurance.
This company is WAY bigger so I don't know if I should even say anything and hope it doesn't show up, or be honest about it. Thanks

did you actually get charged and convicted of DUI?
DUI is a criminal offence under the criminal code of canada and will not go away off your record without a pardon as far as i remember.
good luck OP

Yes I got charged and convicted.
Phoned a Pardon company today, apparently it probably will show up and big companies don't like that. I guess she said the best thing to do is for me to be honest and if they mention it tell them I am in the middle of getting it cleared.
Only downside is that apparently if these larger companies don't want you because of a conviction they will keep that on file and you cant apply with them ever again.

this is going to sound stupid but..
when i applied to work at a dealership years ago they required an abstract also.
I know my past wasnt the cleanest as I have lost my licence for driving without consideration when the steering wheel fell of my car and i got into an accident as a result.. pics posted in the "post your wreck" thread.
anyways, i just showed up without an abstract and they asked about it, i told them i forgot and they pretty much forgot about it after that... could work if it really is that big of a deal

hahaha crazy story man, But I dont know if that will work with me ..
The company I am applying for has well over 1000 Employees and they have been extremely professional the whole way though. I have to drive 3 hours for this interview and take a day off work so I just don't want to be wasting my time...

for a large communications company i'm pretty sure they'll dot their I's and cross their T's given the fact that there is a potential liability issue if they dont.
i would be honest and take the suggestions that the pardon company offered you.
everyone makes mistakes but no one likes a liar.

btw, atleast if you try and fail, you'll know that you did what you could and theres no hard feelings.
if you never tried and never knew you'd only regret wondering what could have been.

That's what i am thinking. I did Sub Contract for Telus a couple years ago with another company and they made me do a criminal record check and a drivers abstract and Telus approved it. I am not contracting this time though, I will be working for a actual service provider..

So true man. I hope I am just over reacting and they actually don't mind. We will see I guess!
