Stolen phones blacklist launches in Canada
Quote:
|
Cellphones, tablets and other wireless devices that have been reported lost or stolen can no longer be activated — and therefore used — on most wireless networks in Canada, following the launch of a new national “blacklist” of such devices Monday.

It's better than nothing.
There's always a way around everything.
It's like having security for your car.
If a thief really wants to jack your car, nothing will stop them.
But you can add deterrent(s) to discourage the act.

I don't think this is really aimed at the hardcore groups of thieves... this is more of a preventative measure for those who simply see a phone left unattended and decide to jack it in order to make a quick buck.
None of this will really deter thieves, however, if people buying used phones don't have it checked out by a service provider before handing over a handful of cash.

There's a lot of T-Mobile phones with bad IMEI on eBay, so they won't work in Canada now too?
