Selling car to US.
I had a question about selling my car to someone in the US. Sorry I searched around and I could not find a good explanation of the process.
So someone in Seattle area is interested in my car but they are lost on the whole process too. Would I have to go down and meet or does he have to come up and pick it up? Do we just go to an Autoplan here in BC and do the transfer? Payment wise certified check from US bank? Are they able to drive it back or does it need to be shipped down?
If anyone has any experience or knowledge it would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest you sell the car in BC and they drive back down to deal with US customs.
i suggest cash, do it at Autoplan, they can contact their insurance company and get a binder insurance to drive back.
For you, you need to surrender the plates to ICBC to cancel your insurance.

Let the buyer deal with the importation. Don't get involved, as I would not want anything to do with any importation delays etc.
Cross border shopping is a pain, and when I did it myself I knew the process before getting into it. The seller just had to sign on the line.

What you can do is meet the buyer at any autoplan office.
You will need to complete a BOS, give the signed registration and complete a transfer form (apv9t), even though the apv9t is not required when they register the vehicle in the US. Make sure the buyer brings some type of primary ID (passport). The agent will call ICBC to check if that person has any debt with ICBC. If he doesn't have any debt, ICBC will allow the broker to issue an ICBC temporary operations permit (TOP) so that he can drive the vehicle down back to the US.
The issue will be, what type of documents/procedures will the buyer need to go through, when they import the vehicle into the US.
