My very first attempt at HDR...I don't think I'm doing it right though hehe well, I didn't do it the proper way to begin with..

Instead of taking the same pic at different exposures, I just took the one raw file and converted it into several tiff files at different exposures, combine them altogether and then process with tone-mapping  I just wanted to give Photomatix a try to see what the fuss is all about...I personally don't think HDR is my thing...But I'll attempt it once more using the proper way soon..

Here it goes!

My bro's car..

My car..

Again, sorry for the low quality HDR :(

And a few 'normal' shots :)

Some C&C would be highly appreciated..Thanks guys

the 'normal' shots are much better imo, not a fan of HDR... but maybe just becuase all my HDR attemps came out crap!

love the engine shot the most

Tried to make the background or surrondings blend in with the cars when i was shooting a show today... usually most of my pictures have a bad background making it not that good...

resolution isn't that big, just linked these from my flickr.

I'd lay off the smart sharpen/unsharp mask a bit. I was going to say light the front of the car a bit better, but the way it is makes it kind of dramatic...

Update from the rig.

Yes it's out of focus, yes it's blurry (didn't bring my shutter release)

The pictures shows a Canon 20D with a 17-40 being suspended from a 20ft pole. At 20ft the pole has a lot of flex and needs a L bracket installed. With a 15ft I'm able to get the whole car in the frame with a crop camera at 17mm so that isn't all that bad!

bikerx 06-29-2009 01:11 PM

looks good ;)

ColinK 06-29-2009 03:42 PM

glad to see it's coming together! :)

Matsuda 06-29-2009 05:33 PM

I have an article in one of my UK photography magazines that does aerial shots of buildings with a van setup like this. Its on a huge pole with a camera on top. It was pretty amazing and the shots they were taking from the van was crazy.

Mananetwork 06-29-2009 09:11 PM

^ Post it! :D

btw here's another photo from my camera phone, sorry about the quality
