SRT-4 or GTI?

I am about to get my first car. I am going to mod it a little bit at a time. I really want an SRT-4 but I heard insurance is a bitch. If that isn't a good car for starters then I guess I'll get a GTI.

Which car is the best for a first car? (I am still going to be modding) WHY?

if u are serious about modding/learning and tuning get the SRT, i've seen on honda-tech a guy was running 23 psi on stock internals pushing like 380hp.....

now i'm not suggesting u do that, but imo the srt 4 is more of a tuners car, and if i had the choice i would go with it.

Considering your choices are both relatively quick for a first car, your best bet is to pick the car you want and go to a driver training course.

In the end you can get into trouble with any car so just make sure you learn the limits of the car in a controlled and safe environment first.

And don't forget - he's from Houston and they don't have government controlled insurance like we do with ICBC. A single, young, first time driver is big $$$ in the US for insurance.

wait for the new mk5 GTI if u can. the 2.0L FSI Turbo will own and it's setup a lot better off the lot than the current GTI.

btw to clarify there's a 1.8Turbo and a 2.8L VR6 engine. both are good engines but the turbo is more of a tuner's as mentioned. the it's all about what ur looking for.. you're looking at 2 very different cars imho

the thing about the srt-4 is it will always be a neon. if you sell the gti a few years later. you still get some money back. a neon you may have to pay to sell it. if you sell it for less than your payments are.

srt is bullshit. Dodge only made it to compete agaisnt subaru. Dodge didnt have any other production cars to compete with subaru so thats why they made it. I would get the sti over the srt.. my 2 cents

The VW GTI and the SRT are in a similar price range.

The STI is $20k Cdn more expensive than an SRT.

This SRT-4 will cost you an arm and a leg over the long run. Dodge has a horrible reputation for honoring their warranties, and the depreciation will kill you.

Other than that, it would be a great fun little car. Just don't keep it very long, if you care about saving your money.

Bull. I find VW is worse off with later generation vehicles.
