There's a place in Station Square called Yakko's Sushi. It's located near the Future Shop and underneath the little underpass. Very small hole in the wall place with limited seating, but they've got the most amazing sushi I've ever had hands down.

If it's not up to par, be sure to rip on it in this thead so Senna gets offended.

I wouldn't do that. I'm already heading out for 2 lunches this week (one at Ajisai, do you know Hide, Senna?), so Bistro Sakana will have to wait for next week at the earliest.

I was at Bistro Sakana today, around 8:45p.m. I was the girl wearing the black tank top, black open-weave cropped shrug, jeans, black heels. Were you the guy in the black T-shirt, Senna?

I don't remember....did you have the roll combo or the tuna carpaccio? Did you sit in the middle table by the window?

I ordered the blue fin tuna but I didn't remember if Tuesday is the "right" day to order it (when it's freshest...I know most of the fish comes in on Tuesday, but not blue fin). Anyway, took a chance and the tuna was fine. I enjoyed the hamachi--it was very buttery and the blood orange cuts through the richness with the tart juice. I thought the hamachi was a pretty good dish.

Thanks! Bluefin tuna comes in from my supplier on either Wednesday or Thursday evening. We keep it in our fridge that cools to -1C until Saturday, and we freeze any leftovers as we're not open on Sunday. The one you got today was thawed out this afternoon.
The hamachi is a new dish we just started serving last Friday. The hamachi you had was flown in from Japan today and you guys were the first to have it. I also gave you the belly, the best part!

No wonder the hamachi was so rich-tasting! Thanks for the info. I'll have to come in and sample more of the dishes.

I had a leisurely, 2 and a half hour lunch at Ajisai today! My friend is close friends with the owner, so we got to taste a lot of things that weren't on the menu. In particular, I liked:

-flounder fin
-hamachi belly (this is fast becoming my favourite!)
-geoduck killed when we ordered it
-the freshest, sweetest uni
-an incredible piece of Japanese mackerel (again, I've never had mackerel this fresh)
-mountain potato with unagi
-monkfish liver

We ate a lot more...including a beautiful platter of assorted sashimi. I was in heaven today! It's been awhile since I'd been to Ajisai and I'd forgotten how good the sashimi is (very reasonable too!)

The chef also dusted my ika and scallop nigiri with yuzu--a gift he got from Japan!

-flounder fin - Hehehe...I always keep this & eat this myself.

-hamachi belly (this is fast becoming my favourite!) - Not really a fan, as all hamachi is farmed.

-geoduck killed when we ordered it - lucky you!

-the freshest, sweetest uni - must've been the live ones in season now!

-an incredible piece of Japanese mackerel (again, I've never had mackerel this fresh) - quite expensive, about $8/lb wholesale! Not as fatty as the regular Norwegian mackrel. I like it.

"The chef also dusted my ika and scallop nigiri with yuzu" - you like yuzu? I'll remember that next time...I have an original (I hope) sushi that uses it!

The yuzu with the sashimi was incredible! Also, I enjoyed the geoduck with a tiny bit of lemon and a swipe of sea salt (that's the way my friend ordered it.) It was different and very good!

I will have to come in for your original sushi dish with the yuzu. (Oh, and I owe my friend a lunch so I will most likely bring him too. )
