A+ certificate

is there course to do this or just take a test?

Eclypz 12-15-2004 12:26 AM

the one i was going to sign up for is a course with a test.

i was told you don't need to show up for the course, though and just need to take the test at the end of the course.

weiweiwei 12-15-2004 12:35 AM

really? how much and where

misteranswer 12-15-2004 02:30 AM

A+ consist of 2 test. A core exam and an OS exam. They are around $145 USD each. No course is needed like almost any of these industry certifications.

ImportPsycho 12-15-2004 05:32 AM

just take the test.
sign up at comptia

BCIT has A+ course, charges like $1000...
personally never taken the test or the course but I have read A+ books before, nothing you can't learn on your own.

!LittleDragon 12-15-2004 08:21 AM

These certs are a waste of time. I hold 4 different certifications and couldn't find work for 18 months about 2 years ago and I had 4 years of experience at the time. Bad industry to be in and get into right now. I'm just waiting to get laid off so I can go back to school and learn something else.

FYI, the A+ isn't one of the certs I currently hold. I was going to take it but after looking at the study material, I decided not to. It's basically certifying that you have the computer knowledge of a 15 year old. Yeah, the test is that easy... If I was an employer, I wouldn't even look at that unless it's for an $8/hour computer repair man.

!MiKrofT 12-15-2004 10:46 AM

haha I took the a+ sample test and scored 100%... I might take the certification just for the hell of it :)

Eclypz 12-15-2004 01:04 PM

yea...A+ is pretty useless...lol...it's pretty easy to get.

apparently all FS technicians are a+ certified :D

I was looking at the one @ BCIT (work was paying for it, so price didn't matter to me)

weiweiwei 12-21-2004 08:22 PM

anywhere else have the course/test?

Fox1096 12-21-2004 10:00 PM

yea I finished the exam in like 5 minutes. lol

604_Snooze 12-22-2004 12:16 AM

As I remember, there should be around 80 questions on the A+ hardware part exam.......

5 minutes to finish?!?!??!?!?!

weiweiwei 12-22-2004 12:20 AM

5x60=300

300/80=3.75

3.75 seconds per question not bad:smokin:

The exam is now......ah........i forget the word for it.

It's like this, if you answer a question correctly, the next question will be harder and if you keep answering them correctly, you will get less questions. So if you get nothing wrong then it will be a short test. However if you do answer questions incorrectly, it will ask you more questions and the test will be longer.

I believe they implemented this in 2002.

Fox1096 12-24-2004 06:15 AM

yea man, it was super easy. Even after I finished the test and went to the person in charge, he's like "are you sure you're finished?" lol

r-0-b 01-22-2005 02:21 PM

my friend said its stupid stuff that i know already, but id rather just be able to stick it on my resume.

where do i take this test?

4JaiBao 01-22-2005 02:47 PM

the only test (well, of course, not just one test) I will take is MCSE

SuperChicken 01-22-2005 10:34 PM

I've taken MCSE, A+, CCNA, and a bunch of various other garbage certification courses. I went through the testing after challenging the A+ exam, and became A+ certified. What a waste of $250. I've taken the Win2k and Win2k Server MCP Exams, but only passed the Win2k Pro test. If anyone else here has taken the MCP / SE tests, they'd understand why they're so damn annoying. Way too many "what if" situations and trick questions.

One of these days I'll finish my MCSE cert. It's not really worth much these days anyway.

If you want a certification to have, go write the Sun SL275 (Certified Java Programmer) and the CCNA/CCNP, both are some of the hardest out there for midrange techs and non-programmers.

voss 01-24-2005 11:58 AM

where can you take the sample test? online?

comptech 06-26-2005 05:59 PM

To be A+ certified,

does that mean that i have to take both the hardware and the software?

scheng924 06-26-2005 10:10 PM

i was gonna take it and read the book...

and said to myself....

@#$% this, half my friends when i was in gr 8 knows this stuff already.. why bother...

impactX 06-27-2005 12:17 AM

It's lame. I was looking at taking this 4 years ago, the stuff was easy as hell.

Ping 06-27-2005 05:50 AM

The course was offered for free at my work, so I took it. I had more fun socializing and correcting the teacher than anything else. :lol I didn't end up taking the test though.

striderblade 06-27-2005 07:34 AM

So where do we go to take this test?
