you see how much it's gone up lately? it's not for no reason.

the release is gonna result in profit taking, nose dive. then buy.

of course we could be wrong and it could keep going up. there's always another chance.

the real question is will it break $15?

will068 01-29-2013 07:13 AM

Speaking of which. Bought some Rimm Puts for a quick buck. Meh... Time to regain some money I lost in AAPL.

i knew $7 or $8 was probably a good buy, but just too risky

you're up, risk is high - it's a double edged sword - i'd get out of that right now

@Z-33

yeah definitely feeling sorry for the guys that bought RIM in hopes of it going up.

Just an introduction: My names Evan I'm in the middle of my accounting designation in public practice and manage a decent portfolio.

My investments sit with Wood Gundy (the investment banking division of CIBC) and I get my "advisor" to forward me any information on what their analysts are predicting, along with the other analysts they use.

They are predicting a strong uptrend in Canadian energy over the next 3 quarters.

I just found this post now and look forward to talking with you guys!

I'm sad z-33 is gone, especially as I am now vindicated

And boy, he hated ppl who invest (not trade) in aapl... Aapl is a beast, has great p/e, very low risk in the long run, great market growth potential in Asia... It may not have the pizazz of a year ago, I'm fine with that, still a solid holding

Gotta ask, what did u do before entering CA to have a sizeable portfolio? It's not from anticline student pay (been there, know the pain)

And why have it with an advisor, unless its money from dead people (inheritance)

I'm gonna actually defend z-33, if u buy at $100, goes up 100%, it's at $200, stock goes down 10% to $180 - ur up 80%

Just sayin'

if their analysts were right, they wouldn't be analysts... they'd be traders.

as far as I can tell, anyone in finance that isn't a trader... is either a failed trader, or can't take the risk/pressure/stress etc.

PhEnX 01-31-2013 09:16 AM

Just picked up a copy of think or swim and in the options trading sections it recommends options trades its saying are 99.7% likely to profit with between 50-125% profit margin.. I activated a few of the trades in paper mode because Im fairly skeptical.

Anyone had experience with similar?

Ulic Qel-Droma 01-31-2013 10:38 AM

uhhh

i thought 99% of options expire worthless.

the ones that don't expire worthless... yes 50-125% profit seems normal.

i think it means 99.7% of the WINNERS win on average 50-125%

what they don't tell you is that 99% of ALL options expire worthless. 0. losers.

Would imagine its based on certain assumptions such as current market conditions holding steady. Somebody wanna add/clarify?
