im curious to know, I consider myself more of a value investor, although still pretty amateur, but I it seems like investing in blackberry is just speculation that you think it will do something legit because of that Samsung thing..

whats a "value" investor?

don't invest in speculation... you will get raped. Invest in facts and stats and sometimes that doesnt even work.

speculation is everything yo. u just have to manage your position and pull out when you realise youre wrong.

u can always get back in. unless your fees rape you, then you should find a new broker.

investing in facts and stats don't work either because that shit is already factored into the market. any info you can get your hands on, everyone else can too. investing in facts and stats is also just speculation... you're speculating that everyone will act on that info.

the only info that works is info which you're one of the early adopters and got in before everyone else acts on it. good luck finding that info.

Damn, I can't believe how many people try and get into stocks based on speculation
I have a hard time holding a stock that I've researched and watched the chart on for more than 5-10 minutes. These people be trying to hold a stock for days without any research.

Officially out of AMRN, broke even but lost a significant portion of my TFSA in the process.

Diversity goooood, gambling baaaaaad. lol

The gains are a result of the partnership that was recently announced with a Chinese Pharma Co., it provided them with additional cash which may provide them with enough runway to reach Reduce-it study completion.

Trouble is IMO, it's still just a speculative play, BO or nothing, and it seems not of the big pharma's want to touch them.

Surprise not one have discuss about the euro crisis and what's happening in China stocks.

Anyone think China stock will pop in the next few days? Seems what the Chinese gov doing isn't helping the market at all. I think the Chinese gov just haven't intervene at the right time. Also the restriction they post is really scaring investors away. Is this the start of the bubble or the end.......

it's just a really short term option that you must hold till expiry.

at expiry it's either above or below the price mentioned. and you win... or lose. that's it.

bought some sp500 futures 2080 calls when it was at 2060, sold when it was at 2120.

bought some 2105 puts when it was at 2120, still holding. if ES drops to 2050 this week i'll take profits.

The NYSE and TSX got wrecked today. -huge plunge in the North American stock markets.

Can anyone give advice on what to do during these volatile markets? Despite the market sentiment, I think there are buying opportunities in the stock markets similar to what happened in 2008.

I sold stock in a tech company that trades on the NASDAQ because the stock met my target price for selling.

From my super conservative investment model, this is really an excellent buying opportunity:
- Don't buy any stocks.
- Buy index funds that track the market (MUCH lower risk of these funds failing to ZERO)

I'm currently tracking the following markets with ticker symbols in bold:
- Canadian (S&P TSX) --> XIC
- American (S&P500) --> XUS
- Emerging markets (Asia, Russia South America) --> XEC
- International markets (Europe, Australia) --> XEF
- Canadian Bonds --> XQB

(side note: I also split my Canadian ETF holdings to go heavy on oil with ZEO)

Year to date, nothing looks like a huge bargain to me yet (>20% since January), except maybe my oil fund and maybe my general S&P TSX fund (~11% since January).
