I'm going to try hitting the gym tomorrow morn @ 6am to see how the "before work" crowd is.

One thing that I hate is their lockers use smaller locks so my normal combination lock doesn't work

Do you guys use the lockers and leave your locks on there? I'm thinking of doing that if I make it a routine to work out in the morning before work.

are you serious? as soon as you walk through the doors of sports central a wave of BO hits you at the speed of light.. are you telling me you don't get this? lol. i've been goign to sc for 2 years now and i always get hit by it..

when you go, just leave your SC card with the staff and they will give you a key lock for free. they cut locks off lockers ONCE a month if you do not rent one from them. so take ur chances. i think they do the locker check at the end of every month, so i guess you can use it for 3 weeks in the beg. without having the risk of your lock getting cut.

sport central is probably one of the dirtiest feeling gyms ever..

all those people who say it's clean.. it really isn't.
most of the equipment is older. nothing really new.
DB's and free weights are constantly loose. they never tighten their shit.

and honestly, it feels soo dirty in there.
it smells like shit all the time because they don't have proper ventilation.
nasty smell.
but if you're going to work out it's decent. hella busy after 7pm-12am.
either go in the morning or afternoon. otherwise the free weight section will be PACKED.

if you want luxury, go to steve nash gym.. but they close at 11pm. kinda gay.. sport central is 24hours +. so ymmv

i've been to fitness unlimited, it's wayy smaller but seems cleaner and they have a full sized bball court if you're into that.
not as buys as sport central i find.

yeah i admit it's pretty dirty compared to the other gyms ive been to but whatever.
what u talkign about ventilation? they have a garage door open with a huge ass fan which if it's off you can just go switch it on.

yeah i admit sometimes it's a bit smelly but that's from the manure and whatever other farm or home depot or some shit that gets blown by the wind towards the gym. the whole area behind the gym smells like that.

it's not that packed after dinner till midnight man. i think the busiest time is 4pm-9pm? maybe even 10 or 1030.

the worst i've ever had to wait was on a chest day, and they ran outta benches, but i only had to wait a total of like 15min over my entire 1 hour workout so that's not bad for peak hours. have u been to fitnessworld at peakhours? you have to wait for EVERYTHING. turns your 1 hour workout into like a 1.5 hour workout, it's bs.

Meowjin 06-08-2009 12:06 AM

im more pissed that all the cardio machines are pretty much broken.

B-DiZzLe 06-08-2009 12:56 AM

ok guys, it's not THAT dirty, c'mon you workout and u sweat and then you go take a shower, it's not like there are pieces of shit laying around... they open the garage door and the wind carries in dust/dirt etc... it's bound to happen and the nammer cleaning guy is there 5 days a week cleaning.

If you're saying it's PACKED than obviously you've been to some really big high end gyms. It's not as bad as you guys are explaining it to be, it's actually quite roomy and I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes for an exercise, 90% of the time I never have to wait and I go at prime time 4pm-8pm ish...

SC is good for the price, it's big and has equipment that you need... Fitness world's dumbells only go up to 100, SC has 130 (trust me it's a big difference)...

The bad thing about this gym is that they fail to replace/repair broken machines in an efficient manner, there are many machines that still do not have the grips replaced and pins have gone missing.

Another thing is there are not enough plates of the smaller weights 35,25,10,5,2.5.. ( I think there's only 2 plates of 35's in that gym for real) and you'll have to walk from one corner of the gym to another just to find it, if you find it that is....

The heat in the gym in the summer is too crazy for me, when i'm on the treadmill I honestly feel like i'm going to faint, I can't breathe well in the heat. There is no AC, they open a garage door and use a HUGE fan to blow air to try to ventilate but it fails to cool me down since its only blowing hot air at me.

No way

The only machine that I've come across that needs to get fixed is the elliptical machine that is closest to the boxing ring (directly in front of the TV). It makes a clunking noise on the left pad. The rest of the ellipticals work fine

RacePace 06-08-2009 12:41 PM

left my watch there yesterday, luckily it was turned into lost and found :)

Did u just join the gym?

Ya, elipticals are usually fine, but the treadmills on the other hand are going out of service weekly and they're the ones right infront of the TV, I guess because they're used more frequently.

I remember once when 4 of the treadmills were out and took over a week to get maintenance on them.

i have been going there for almost three years and the equipment has gotten worse. a few of the cardio machines are broken and alot of the grips on machines are missing. i bitched to the guy thats in charge and he told me hes gonna try to get them all fixed before the end of the month. I usually go at 3 or 6 rarely do i have to wait for a machine

Left the house at 6:06 this morning (BCIT area) and got to the gym at 6:16 while going with the flow of traffic.

Place was absolutely dead. I was there with 4 other people including Nick (stocking the fridge outside)

Place gets busy around 7am
