i use to have FTA for directTV..it was sweet back in the days because they didnt change the code constantly. I miss those sweet PPV
now we cant even crack it
i then switched to Bell then to Dish..then eventually gave up because it basically required updated codes every few days.

Do you guys update the codes yourselves or get others to do em?

LethalLaw 04-19-2009 03:27 PM

Reason why in my own opinion I think Nag3 will be cracked shortly is due to all the money in the FTA industry (think of all the companies involved with it; Recievers, switches, dishs, fta stores, etc)

Sorry, I'm new to all this, can someone explain what FTA is?

Also, If I build myelf an antenna, is there a way to connect it to my tv while still using regular cable as well, so I can watch all the other channels that the antenna doesn't pick up?

some TV's have both a cable and ant connection. I have a 19" samsung at work that does. most probably don't though. otherwise you'd probably need a manual cable switch. other option would be cable to a VCR, and then VCR to TV via RCA or S-video. freeing up the cable jack on the TV for the ant

Buy a TV/Antenna switch. Cheapest place is the dollar store at Lougheed Mall if you can't find it elsewhere. Looks like this, http://www.onlm.com/ebay/ea-switch400.jpg. If your TV has the option of Cable ON or OFF, select OFF if you're using the antenna and ON with reg cable.

thanks guys.

FTA stands for Free To Air.

There are certain satellites that offer free channels if you point your dish towards them and have a STB (sat box) capable of receiving them.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free-to-air

However, the reason why FTA is so popular now is due to the fact that you can receive Bell (BTV) and Dish Network programming on the STBs with a hacked firmware.. which is illegal.

Hope that cleared that up for you! :D

i thought FTA on american signals (DishNet, DirecTV) were legal, no?

It's like The Pirate Bay pirating american stuff..no laws restricting them?

Grey area in Canada, illegal in US

JesseBlue 04-20-2009 01:45 PM

then you gotta love canada...nfusi'n is connected to the net so if there is a new code it will tell you in the beginning that an updated file is available and use the remote to dl it to the box...

Yep. Nfusion works via IKS (Internet Key Sharing) which connects over the net and pushes the new changes that Dish/Bell have implemented into the stream. Not good for people who are paranoid of getting caught as there is still a chance that they could look up the ip addresses and trace it back.

Viewsat/Sonicview etc work with bin files.. where if Dish/Bell make adjustments to their Nagra codes then you would need a new file and manually d/l to usb stick and upload it to your box.

I just made both antena's in this thread, and I can't even pick up CBC analog let alone CBC HD. I barly get a black and white picture with no sound if I take the TV and Ant outside....

I guess I won't be getting HD anytime soon. I can't see seymore at all from my location.

I can pick up 4 channels at my office with a powered ant. I'll try bringing that ant home, but I doubt it'll do anything.

Are you facing it in the right direction? I'm pretty sure CBC is up on Mt Seymour, so you will probably want to point it in that general direction to get any chance of a picture. Can you get a clear view of Mt Seymour? It's probably the channel that comes in the strongest.

Anyone have any updates or input? Suggestions?

What are you trying to do catalin? Use an antenna for the OTA channels?

catalin 10-20-2009 03:31 PM

I'm thinking about it yes, it's going to be a little tough to kick the convenience of Shaw and The Space channel, but if I can confirm that this works then im in.

catalin 10-20-2009 03:32 PM

I'm in the Guildford area of Surrey and was also hoping that someone in that area can confirm it working.
