Class 5 Roadtest

Yes, I have my class 5 roadtest soon and I was just wondering what was on the test? Just reply with everything you remember that was asked to do during the test, and I know Highway is part of the test.

Everything in Class 7 Road Test but higher expectation. No parking tests such as parallel park. Piece of cake don't worry!

Edit: Well you do have to park back at the ICBC place, but unless you can't even do that properly it's not really part of the test.

just be very cautious lol..theres really nothing that could go wrong unless u've honestly never been in a car before.
sounds a lot easier than when its actually done...but i think most of my friends forgot about school zones and shoulder checks (those are the common ones i recall hearing)

I had my Class 5 road test 2 weeks ago in Richmond. You drive around for 30 minutes, and you have to go in and out of highway (easy stuff).

Overall, the test is not hard!
Something you should start training yourself:
* proper shoulder checks
* proper way to hold the steering wheel (no underhand)
* 55km/hr city speed limit
* Hazard (no brainer)
* complete STOP at stop signs
* beware of school zone
* 3-point turn

Basically I sum it up for you~
I nearly failed since I did underhand/one-handed turn several times during the test.
The test is not hard, but your bad habits might fail you. That's all.

Keep at or slightly above the speed sign. Don't go under it or over it too much. Rule of thumb you are allowed about 10% of speed exceeding the posted limits.

I had my test 3 years ago, don't remember too much but it's nothing to be nervous of. I gotta renew my license this holiday~

Yea... It's actually 55 km/hr on your class 5 unlike your class 7. If you decide to drive at 50, they could fail you saying you were driving too slow, hence being a hazard to other drivers

if you get a young white guy try talking hockey with him, thats what I did.. he didnt pay attention most of the time cause we were talking canucks

dont forget to watch for speed limit signs through ubc, they're doing construction on 16th

took mine in burnaby
didn't do any parking at all except the final backing into the stall
no road hazard questions were asked either
only thing surprising he did was deliberately take me through a construction zone
its dead easy if you know your shit

Took mine today and FAILED!

Didn't lose any marks in driving skills, lost it cause I made a couple of violations which is an automatic fail.

I took it in Burnaby, but what i failed was and thus you should watch out for.
- Turned into a Bike lane, which you really have to notice since there was no street sign indicating the right lane was a bike lane. My instructor was pretty tough on this, I realized it once I made the turn and quickly went out, but he said it's an automatic fail if you get into the lane.

- Made a right turn when there was a no-right turn on red light. Now this was hard, I am usually attentive with street signs which says this, but this one was hidden somewhere, didn't even notice it at all until my instructor told me. This is also a violation, so if you miss this you automatically fail too.

So yah, since you are going for your class 5, I wouldn't worry too much about overall driving. I would definately pay attention to every sign, cause if you miss one chances are it's a violation and you will fail. Unless you know your route, I would just pay a driving intructor to teach me all the routes they go, since there are so much tricky, hidden stuff.

Oh yah, for those taking it on Burnaby, watch out when you get out of the ICBC parking center. If you are travelling on Hennings, going eastbound, watch out when you are reaching Gilmore. They newly added a left turn lane, if you are going in that direction and you don't notice it you will drive right past it. Unfortunately, the girl taking the test in front of me didn't notice that and failed within the first minute of getting on to the streets.

After all that time driving with N, and I got my Class 5... I had some crappy following rule ability apparently.

My advice: go in rush hour (in the morning) around 8 or so... hit the highway, and have to turn back rite away

I wouldn't recommend 55km/h even if there is a supposely allowed 10% leeway.(Is there really?) I was warned about speeding when I exceeded 50km/h but I still passed.

If he deducts marks for going "only" 50km/h, you can easily argue and win because it's clearly in the driving book and the street signs that 50km/h is the limit.
Or you can go 55km/h, and then if you get docked, you can argue and tell him you read on an internet forum you can go 55km/h... up to you.

Most cases, the only time one is going too slow is when he goes below 45km/h. Practice controlling your speed to maintain on the 50 mark and you will be fine. When you're on a flat road, just tense your ankle muscle when you have the correct amount of pressure to go 50km/h. Make slow and smooth adjustments accordingly when going on hills.

You may do parellel park, according to the stories, some seem to have done it while others didn't. Just remember to use the handbrake for a full park.

Stop behind the stop sign line, and if there's no traffic, count 2 seconds (in your head) after a complete stop before going again.

You will be doing on the hazard perception just like class7 except you will be doing it while you are driving. Just state everything you can think of, even if it's obvious. You can't get marks deducted for saying crap, but you can for not saying enough.
Weather (sunshine, fog, reflective wet road,etc), trees, parked cars, blind spots, opposite traffic, cars driving beside you, pedestrians, stores that are too bright that can distract you...

If you are on Point Grey, a common path is going along 41st, and then hitting Marine Drive towards UBC. Watch the signs carefully, as certain areas are only 70km/h (not 80km/h). Watch for the dotted lines to know when to merge in. Near the beginning of the test, within the first 5 minutes, you may be on Puget Dr. and King Edward. There's a very sharp right turn you have to make, and it's only one way. There is a "right arrow" sign, but it may not be obvious if you are just watching the road. It's a 160 degree one way merge onto King Edward from Puget Dr. Don't go straight, or instant fail.

Another path is going on broadway, then 16th, then going to UBC, and then back to MacDonald. Pretty much the opposite of what I just said earlier. This one is pretty easy. No tricks really. Just watch out near the park, that you stay on the right, because there is a left turn you will need to make. And there is two openings with a divider. Just make sure you don't turn into the "exit" opening. Then drive 30km/h after that because you're at a park area.

I recommend driving around Point grey area just a bit for about half an hour before the test. The roads around there can be confusing if you are not familiar with the area. Many of the inside streets are not perpendicular like most streets, and it can be confusing when under pressure from the driving tester.

sry to hear man. did u get someone that looks like jesus...i hear he's a harsh marker...the guy i got was the nicest guy ever...we just talked the entire time but he was still paying attention of course.i just got points docked off for speeding up abit to 57km. Burnaby lake and turnin onto lougheed highway is where u gotta watch out. burnaby lake is literally instantly a 30km speed limit and lougheed highway has those bike lanes.

k20a: get like a driving instructor to take u around the area and know the routes...it helps ALOT. but it's not too hard...ur just taking the examiner on a drive.

I was responding directly to networkz quote right above my post, I shouldve quoted him. apparently its not very common for them to make you do it on a class 5 test, but they did it to me
