If you like his past work, then I think chances are higher you might like it.

But it is what you would imagine the guy who directed Midsommar, to create a dark comedy about anxiety and oedipus complex would be like. That is, wildly imaginative and well directed but also you are not sure if you should be LOL'ing or disturbed at how fucked up it is.

i gotta say bradley wrote and directed this and then also produced this. pretty crazy.
Then again, if it wasn't him, they would probably never cast him. His last movie A Star Is Born with lady gaga got him good grounds.

This one is not as fun or as hollywood like A star is born so if you're looking for a the typical formula, you won't get it.
Brad and Carey both did an amazing job and I have ot say Bradley's costume design to the sets to the entire flow was very good.
Who would have thought ot cast him after The Hangover to the American Sniper. Im really impressed with people who came from comedy and never able to thrive again.

Acting, makeup, the music was good - they treaded lightly on Leonard Bernstein's personal life and I felt is fair. *flatter movie for general audience.
He's remembered for his music who gives an F on his personal life.

Now, Bohemian Rhapsody was fun, band tension and Freddie Mercury's was just so much fun from all aspects... you won't get it here.

At the final 20 minutes mark, Brad's performance of conducting Mahal at Ely Cathedral was a 1 shot take ... solid 5-6 minute of him conducting.
He did capture the essence perfectly.

Goldfinger (HK movie starring Tony Leung and Andy Lau)
10/10 for me
Really enjoyed the story line, the era-specific costume, designs, and they even got all the cars correct!

Lift by Kevin Hart.
zero expectations.. Not bad. at least I didn't turn off the TV. Stories sort of tied together, of course there are some stupid CGI moments...
Pretty happy Kev pull off a non stupid, farts, swearing, inadequate family man type roll.

I did enjoy a few lines he had... stupid thinking what's on the blackboard, think outside of the problem. Think beyond what's there. If you can't hack the technology, hack the people...

Decent heist movie that my wife enjoyed, i'm was so-so. Pacing was decent so it went by quick. Ok watch but acting.. surprisingly.. Kev was decent (cause all the other cast was purely garbage LOL).

Keep in mind 2022 was a year of crap movies due to 2 years of covid post production. Things were not going well for the film industries due to theatres not really opening in 2021.

So Tom Cruise postponed a few times getting that movie in line to be in theatres. Action movies was even worse as big productions were at risk.

Check this out: these were ones I enjoyed but nothing worthy against Maverick.

Bullet train - brad pitt - meh but I liked it.
Adam project
Gray man - boring
Eveyrthing Everywhere - mehhh *def not family worthy.
Prey - i enjoyed this a lot.
Batman - good spin
Lost City -rom com
Black Adam - holy crap what a joke
Death on the Nile... veyr good mystery.

For a good family worthy movie, hitting the nostalgic 80-90s with action pack for teens.. Marverick did hit the spot - given he did a lot of stunts and a lot of publicity helped as well.

Dream Scenario

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt21942866/

New film with Nick Cage, A24 film.

We really liked it, 8/10. Weird movie, love these types of films, really plays off on cancel culture and the "pile-on" affect in current society.

Hunter Killer [2018] - 3/10
Considering they had a pretty good cast the plot and script are pretty terrible. Lots of rah rah go US army type crap with no actual substance.

Hot Shots! [1991] - 7/10
A good comedy in a similar style to Airplane, so if you like that humour it's worth a watch.

FWIW, we won the tickets from TVB

We would have gone despite not winning the tickets (it was a complete surprise.)

Aquaman 2 The lost kingdom
Maybe it was just the 'brotherly' love, I liked the 1st one, but this one I just couldn't connect.
Oh, there are greenhouse gasessss.. let's stop it from releasing to Earth.
Good to see Randall Park having a short stint but all in all, please skip the movie.
James Wan was director who was famous for Saw and FF7.. I'm just surprised the movie made a profit.
Thought I was watching a HK movie for a second... saw a shot of the IWC watch, Aspirin, Guinness. thakn goodness it stopped after 1st part of the movie.

In some way, shape or form, Aquaman in an interview already said he liked his character but he knows there won't be a 3 or at least he won't be in it.
He said he would play someone in the DCU but errrrrr got rejected... LOL.

What a shame all DCU ain't doing well as they are trying hard to reboot superman.

^He's going to play Loki in DCU.

Hence why the movie was a total lame duck.

"No actor would be playing multiple characters, so if they did cast Momoa as Lobo he would not portray Aquaman in the DCU."

Maybe this is why they are taking him out of Aquaman and putting him in Lobo. let's see hwo this goes.. DCU will have to find new actors for batman & superman.

Ferrari 3/10

More than half the movie is spent on Enzo's love life. The racing parts are boring and the sound. The cars sound generic. It's like they downloaded generic car sounds and put them in the movie. How could they fck that up. This is how a Ferrari suppose to sound like.

Uh... they literally hooked up anywhere from 9 to 11 microphones to the actual race cars from that era and recorded off of them driving in tunnels. Adam Driver talks about it in detail in recent interviews.

It sounded great in the theatre, you must have been listening on some crap speaker system lol

Beau is Afraid - 8.5/10. Another A24 film, I think it's pretty obvious I'm obsessed with this studio

VERY polarizing film. Clocking in at 3 hours, you will either love it or hate it, no in between.

I love these types of mindfuck movies that completely change into an entirely different film partway through. It's a shame this movie bombed in theaters, I thought it was fantastic. Audiences didn't get the film, they didn't understand it, which is why I think it gets such mixed reviews.

While watching the film all I could think of was how this script was written and what the actors and producers thought when they greenlit this film, the script must've been an absolute mindfuck to read.

If you enjoy being challenged, questioning things, paying attention to the symbolism placed in a film, you'll love this one. You can tell this was the director's little hobby horse, a magnum opus of sorts.

I feel bad for the director, he's commented how disappointed he was in audience not getting his film, and not noticing all the little details he placed into the film.

https://variety.com/2023/film/news/a...ed-1235767163/

It's like painting a work of art and someone walking by it, having a quick look, and going "Meh, it's ok".

Totally agree, just not all art had a 35 million budget

These all look good, onto my list as well.

I watched The Holdovers, its solid.

The Taste of Things I am super stoked about given my interest in food.

You should add Past Lives to your list, I haven't seen it yet but it had a lot of buzz.

I already watched Past Lives back in Sept when it first came out. posted here before
Review

yes i watch a lot of crap movies and there are some who are gifted in story telling, character tension but danggg Past Lives did NOT do it for me.

Understand what it was trying to do ... just was not worth of anything whatsoever.

Situation was relatable but when it's too real (boring) it become too meh. If it's too hollywood happy ending it's fake. Love the premise, jsut when it ended, it was ... what that's it.. moment cause I was hoping a bit more. Did remember their 1 shot take final scene but that was about it.

Fuck I thought about watching that past lives film, but now you've sown some doubt, 6793026.

Although I know you watch some dumpster fires, and liked them in fact, so maybe I'll give it a chance

Didn't know it was 2021, mr. shazam dude Zachary did this movie after shazam. Didn't think it was worthy at all and man....serisouly, 43 year old playing a 20/30...
What a surprise the tier B movie that was pretty legit!

Real story, broke record for joe montana, hall of fame 2017, underdrafted dude in NFL... What a great story to be tone. acting by the female lead Anna Paquin was on point.. man she even risked it all and got those 80s haircut like our elementary school teacher.

ending was decent and paced really well..

i enjoyed it 100X than crap movies like Fast Charlie
