What a GREAT ride. THIS is why you need a good director/ writer and screenplay by the same person. Cause their vision WORKS! Of course, with Ben and Matt, they also produced the movie making it a great well rounded story, action, acting and story in order for them to jump on the project.
One thing to note, the music & the lighting of the movie was FREAKING fantastic. I think after the 1st 20 mins, the entire movie was shot in dark places but you were never unknown or horrified about where you are, but tension is being built minute by minute. The scene from the car of just 4 people were superb.
Thinking this was just a 100M movie and sold to Netlix, i wish it was at theatres.
Entire movie is about DEA / cops / drugs and gun but it's NOT a particular action movie but the tension between what is going on. Everything wraps up so well that you are waiting to see what's plays out.
This sort of reminds me of how standard HK movies are made back in the 90s Internal Affairs script when it was at height of movie making.
Its' funny how IG is posting the new "formula" in movie making because Ben and Matt wants people to be aware while watching Netlix ...(It's by repeating 3-4 times, the plot of the movie cause people multi task on Netflix.)... meh
Love story about hwen someone dies you stay at Eternity. Either you meet up with your love of your life / unicorn romance or you be with someone whom you have married for 40+ years.
It's very well casted, very well played in the 2 male lead which made you feel for them. Then also the supporting casts were placed perfectly to make a point.
I can't say anything bad about the film, it's sort of like time travel with some glitches but it just worked.
It's mostly a rom com and well worth the time to watch with someone.

very well worth the watch for start of 2026
The action isn't bad either. The director wanted it practical and insisted on full load blanks when possible... Ben was like, "Can't we just use airsoft?"
Also, Ben and Matt made sure the 1200 crew members that made the movie are getting bonuses as well, if the movie hits Netflix's performance metrics. So the below the line people will get a one time bonus as well. People are streaming the movie multiple times to help. That never happens. The only other time I've heard of it was Keanu sharing his bonus points from the OG Matrix with the SFX team.
Good on those guys to get the little people some extra $.

I have to say, It was a while ago watching Zootopia 1 so I'm a bit blank on what some characters were. Of course who would forget Flash. Glad he made a come back.
The story flowed well and it was fast pace as usual. I enjoyed the wittiness from the 1st one more because there was more of dynamic nemesis and yet they have to work together, this time is more of action action and more action and crime solving.
Sold part 2, decent script for adult and kids. Would recommend watching 1st one to get more of a background story / characters.

Yes, this is what happens when son of a rich dad did a 1 hit wonder of a movie and now spent 7 yrs on a new movie and it flops. 20% on rotten tomato... suckers.
Backdrop - drug lords having 2 sons coming back in year 1994 in a snowing Hong Kong. WHAT? yes.. why 1994, and why a snowing Hong Kong is beyond me.
Juno Mak is son of a business man so yes he had a lot of money to spend. He did a movie (classic corspse remake of the classic 1984 movie; who the director was my actual real uncle.)
So when he did a remake using the same title, released in 2013, won a few awards.
Budget of the movie was US$50 million which was huge in HK terms, hired a LOT of A list artists. Well, this is what happens when you throw money at things. Despite that, the scripe sucked, the tension was never established, CGI was crap but most importantly, NOTHING lifted off.
THe only thing that was legit was the artistic black and white of the entire movie. It's not the first time but when Sin City and maybe Sucker Punch , but it just failed.
I cant' even give it one star because I can't put my finger on anything that would be worthy to suggest to anyone. What a great flop which people had such high hopes.

Wait, is this the same Juno Mak that was a singer in HK? lol didn't realize he switched gears.

He was a singer and then disappeared for a while. Then did the movie 'tribute / remake' on the Chinese Zombies. Then he did a few collab songs with Kay Tse which was very good in 2015.
In 2015, he started this movie which took 10 yrs with 10+ A list actors.
One Battle After Another - 8/10 but I think I will like it even more on subsequent re-watches.
The opening did not do it for me. The Teyana Taylor character was infuriating in terms of the lack of personal responsibility and selfishness. But given she is a radical, I guess it fits the MO.
The movie really picked up 16 years later, with the relationship between the father and daughter. Much more of a PTA vibe, and low key hilarious.
Yes there may be some plot holes but the story was interesting, it was very well edited and paced, the script was fantastic and hilarious, and the general direction and cinemetography was outstanding.
Sean Penn was amazing, but the other military guy who was doing the interrogations was scary AF. Apparently the actor was not a professional but actually worked at Homeland Security.
The final chase scene, even though it's on a straight road, with just three cars, and nothing really happening, the way it was shot and scored just built so much tension. What a masterpiece of direction.
So many memorable quotes even from the first watch.
"A few small beers"
"Wassup homie?"
"Yes sensei! thank you sensei!"
"Semen demon"
"Ocean waves"
"raped in reverse"

What a great movie. I had no idea it was Russell Crowe as he put on so much weight up to 277 lbs, he even tried to speak with a German accent. Great movie and performance with him. The ONLY thing that made it weird was the cutting of the film; I'm thinking because the movie was edited / cut differently, you woudl see him being heavier with accent at the beginning and then in the middle scenes... more Americanized and then at towards the end, much more German like. Everyone in the cast was solid as well.
Now, the entire cast was solid and even mr Bohemian Rhapsody / Rami Malek did a solid job...but also in a weird way. I think the director who was also the one who did the screen play liked him, but this portrayal was a BIT weird at times. There is a certain Stockholm syndrome which is a bit weird and being a doctor / psychiatrist, it's weird to have a smile on the face.
Entire movie was long, 2.5 hours but it felt decent paced - they even threw in some historical bits which was a bit too much despite it being 3 mins? When you see if you'll know.
Lastly, didn't know it was a historical thriller and based on a true story which made it so good. Acting was very good all around without talking too much about Nazi yet throwing in crime wars... seeing how this plays out was actually really good. Ending was sad because it reveals what happened to the author / Rami etc.
Much better than a Sinners, WIcked, F1 etc... but ti's a different genre so we'll see who will win what.

I thought the tension buildup was amazing up until the reveal, but after that it fell apart.

Bugonia
It's a very weird title with a very weird cast with a very weird script.
Why this title, well it's cause Bugonia was a folk practice in the ancient Mediterranean region based on the belief that bees were spontaneously generated from a cow's carcass. Yes, the film is based a bit on bees, but very thin thread so I have no idea why they came up with that tile.
Now, I have to praise Emma Stone on some of the weirdest movies to date. Poor Things was just weird 2 years ago, then she also did LA LA land, and of course, I liked her first few movies esp Easy A and the hilarious Crazy Stupid Love. In Poor Things, she bared all, and in this one, she shaves her head. Truly dedicated her image for the greater good of a movie. Then you got Jesse Plemons (married to Kirsten Dunst) whom I never really noticed him much, but did a decent job playing a really down to earth, cultish southern role.
Back to the movie, won't do no spoilers, but 2 gentleman plans to kidnap the CEO of his own company thinking she is an alien from outer space. The acting is so good making it so believable at time while you get to be in the realm of 2 dudes making weird decisions. How the entire movie plays out is somewhat hit and a miss. Ending is something to be interpretated but all in all, can this be voted to be a worthy film, not really. If you're making a sci-fi movie, then make it so. It's not pushed towards the edge to make this fun or memorable for me.
Only thing for me to take away would only be a well casted movie with decent acting. One of the supporting actor was casted as someone with spectrum also a non actor which was truly a perfect cast.
