Havoc - 7/10 for pre enjoyment nothing more

Completely over the top unrealistic unlimited ammo shoot em up movie with corrupt cops vs a less corrupt cop teamed up with a good cop and 2 randoms vs Cantonese speaking triads. Don't take anything seriously, just some decent brainless action before I went to bed

LOL its like is this the movie he's talking about because it's about gangsters too?

Fed up with the harmless antics of their suburban friends, high school students Allison (Anne Hathaway) and Emily (Bijou Phillips) set off to find some real gangsters on the mean streets of Los Angeles. After meeting inner-city thug Hector (Freddy Rodriguez), the girls begin spending their time with an entirely different sort of crowd. But, as Allison and Emily venture deeper into the criminal world, Hector's violent lifestyle and dangerous connections threaten to consume them.

This was a chinese new year film in China that had raving review.
One of the biggest surprise was Mr. Chow Yun Fat did a long ass 10 min court scene in english creating a huge buzz.

1) Movie made a lot of money (in Chinese terms) - it was 400 Million USD.
2) The whole thing began as the director who was also the script writer did 3 versions of these mystery in chinatown series giving him claim to fame.
b) he wrote this one setting back in 1900
3) John Cusack is in the movieeeee, he's alive!!!
4) it was a movie play on sherlock holmes mystery taking place in the chinese / san fran era

Summary - the movie is not for everyone as mainland china movie tries to pivot to many direction and then tying it all in together. It took a LONG 2 hours to bring it all in together so people might fall asleep.

Murder, revolution, mystery, chinese, natives, white american, unions, story within a story within a story.

Looking Up

Older movie in 2019; director is also the main character & the other director was also the writer. Deng Chao has always been directing and also acting in his movie making it really successful.

Father was a engineer who was plagued by corruption which he took the fall for (huge disgrace and recognized for many years). After going to jail, he finally visits his son who's failing class in high school.

Teacher was going to kick him out but he made a bet that his son will do well.

Extremely heart warming classic movie spanning thru 25 years. The score was amazing, sound track was done by Steffen Thum a german composer.

Again, with china movies, it's all about story and pulling it all in together. Starts off slow but the ending did wrap it nicely - a happy go lucky movie with amazing acting all around. Very good movie to inspire the young to not give up.

Has a bit of 3 idots feel to it. Truly a classic and well recommended movie to all.

Havoc

The 1/2 half was crap. No idea why but I do like Tom Hardy; i can't get that sleezy and angry voice image out of my head every since he did 3 of these crap Venom movie. I do like how it was filmed, it fell so Gotham city which I thought was really cool and grim.

As for as bad guys go, the good old canto gangster was refreshing cause we are tired of seeing Russian mobs.

You are right winson604, towards the end of the gun fight was where it got over the top. Fighting was great and then it got dragged on. Aside from the chow yun fat shooting with unlimited bullets in a short barrel shot gun and shotting everyone with ak47 non stop was hilarious.

Warfare - it's NOT your typical movie. Directed and written by the same guys so it's great to see their passion in it.

Premise - it's based in real time.
It's a snip from a true story via interviewing the platoon members. It's very real life, and it's NO BS because you'll have a guy hurt and he'll be yelling for a good 20 mins in the movie.

They wanted this to be "real life/ real time", so there were ZERO character building. Which has good versus bad - you have to learn how their personality from their acting. Why is this bad; because we barely know their names, we have no idea who they are, and they all look the same - there ain't name tags, there ai'nt hair styles, so you gotta recognize them based on screen time.

There are some post credits with real pics which was nice to see.

Nothing to watch, so guess I'll try Stephen King - THe Monkey.

Toy monkey; each time you turn the key and it becomes The Final Destination ending. Cheapo 10 M budget and director / writter made 66 M.
Pretty cool to see it being filmed in Vancouver, but I couldn't place any locations (Maple Ridge).

Super low budget weird way to die type movie.

《女兒的女兒》
daughter's daughter.

Multiple generation movie about .. well daughters.
This was a TIFF movie so it's slow, paced for emotions, and just watching the ladies act.
I didn't think it was superb aside from the fact it's a weird subject given it's about death, IVF, and dealing with generational trama.

All in all, chick flick joy luck club type movie. Acting was sub par for the rest of the casts, but all in all a bit longer than needed.

RU 2023, story of a Vietnamese well to do family, their experience of refugee on a boat, immigration to Canada, sponsored by a white family in Montreal, hard working father delivers food for a restaurant, bougie mom ends up in a textile sewing company.

All of us have heard of passing stories of Vietnames refugees and their family stories but this movie made you sit through almost 2 hours of it slowly. But as slow as 2 hr was, some of these folks experienced much more than that. The cinematography was amazing, the star of the movie, a teenage girl hardly said much but her acting captured the trauma and scar of the Vietnamese refugee experience so well. 8.5/10

Nonna's (grandma)
what a great movie - who is the guy in the movie?? Vince Vaughn - i had to do a double take cause it has been such a long time seeing him on screen. I was thinking.. who would hire him... turns out he's also the Exec. producer.. lol.

* do stay for the end credits - because it's all based on a true story.

Not boring at all. Blue collar guy took over mom's money and build a restaurant. SUPER happy go lucky, 3-4 diff story lines which all made it great family movie.

From love tension with an old prom date, to brotherly love, to the dead mother grieving, to old grandma dealing with all their own conflicts... truly amazing movie.

The casting was great - many were super famous back in the days. Lorraine Bracco
Talia Shire Brenda Vaccaro - then we even got Drea de Matteo who was (sister from Joey sitcom).

Totally a great movie with decent run time, not too crazy twist, dash of humor and lots of love all around; with some onions cutting. Definitely recommend.

What's not to like in this movie, decent cast, national treasure type mystery treasure hunting with a Guy Ritchie directing and producing.
Just when you were going to watch, do understand there are a few things that doesn't jive. Chemistry, humor and a bit of an issue in this movie.

You'll have natalie portman being out of the picture.. then coming back, then being a bitch and then coming back... just a bit awkward of pacing.

You'll still get the good old guy richie humor and style (esp when it comes to clothing but it was just a bit weird); you'll see a FBI / Interpool being a model.

I'm already being lenient on the loop holes and all the weird - let's go attack egypt with just 5 people or yes, let's go fighting in a library without disrupting anyone.

You even got Eiza González who played baby driver, ambulance, who is hot as well but there just ain't tension within the Jim @ Office - John Krasinski/

No idea why, the humor with him was just poorly written to say the least. You then also good the money bags - Domhnall Gleeson - "About Time".

Too bad there woudln't be a sequal... really wish it justified esp the location filming - austria - egypt - bangkok...

Can you give it a score? Either out of 5, or letter grade.

stopping giving a score cause my 7 is your 9 etc. My 5 is someone's 1.
7/10 then it dropped to 6/10 towards the end.

Final Destination Bloodlines

MIssion impossible was 3 hrs and it was full so we chose this instead.
Huge supporter of this franchise cause it's done in Vancouver. Just the opening scene was H.R. MacMillan Space Centre then you got highways that were langley, new west and then the outdoors were most likely squamish somehwere in the forest / SFU?

We all know this genre, there is no bad person, there is no witch, con man so you are just there to sit until the end figuring out how people will die. They tied the 1st movie back to this, made the history, explanation, characters all work together. Given a great soundtrack as well as a cast which no one knows.. it pulled off quite well and made shit load of money. 50 m budget with 4X return to investor...not bad.

Not too many boring moments, just a blast to sit there and give you the moments of wtf.

Despite watching trailers, i still had a blast. 8/10.

what a gong show. How is this possible to make 4X the return.
Ryan Coogler was director & creed for black panther and creed so I guess he has a following. He also produced this but what a crap movie.

Hey, i have to say, my taste might be crap so despite it being super good reviews, I did not enjoy it at all.
Yes it did hit the woke being such a huge colored cast, some asians etc. No idea how the entire 1 hour of the movie, it was a gangster talk 2 twin brother hustling type movie and then 70 mins in.. it THEN pivots to a dark, horror movie... wtf.

During the song and dance, you started to see some hip hop, some chinese opera ... so i waslike .. wtffff.

Then it became full blow horror - that was a bit tough to pivot as an audience. The ONLY thing I really enjoyed was the music / sound /blues music etc. Yes, it was truly amazing, the songs were catchy. Then also, the Thompson submachine gun was cute end but meh.. it didn't save the movie for me.

I gave Sinners a 7/10, we saw it at Brentwood a while back.

It was fine, but I'm not sure all the hype about it, I do think reviewers are glazing the film up a bit, due to "reasons".

I also wasn't a fan of Black Panther either, I like the hero, but the film itself wasn't that good in my opinion. A CGI fest of monotony.

I also have a bit of Jim-Crow movie fatigue, and whenever these films delve into southern black church culture, I grown out of boredom.

That's fair, and I could sense that type of praise too, before I even saw the poster for it. But it's been a while since I saw a good new movie, and it looks good at the very least.

I like the Black Panther character, but the movies are typical Marvel CGI crap. They're "fine". But there's people who want "Afrofuturism" to be this big thing, so will be over the top with their praise

Strong strong movie. Very well written which really ponders the mind on what's is the ending and what's happening.
Succession - well Jesse Armstrong is the guy who wrote it so when it came to 4 bromance of guys who are all billionaires, spends a weekend together; things go crazy.

Extremely modern script with AI, filters, billionaire club, social justice, governance, greed, ethics, business all lumped together. It's not a really typical hollywood movie because of the ending, the wth is going on and a LOT of jargon being thrown around. Gotta sit down to finalize and decipher all along.

I really enjoyed it; wife had a tough time as she's not in the corp. world, and betrayal or bromance, merger & acquisition pitches were a bit off color to her but all in all - good thinker movie.

Is this what's going to happen if Bezos, Elon Zuckerberg & Sam Altman (CEO of ChatGPT) would do if they went on a cabin together? Nothing bad to say = some people just might not "get" the ending or satisfied with the standard typical "go to jail" ending.

What's the last movie you saw and rate it...

Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning.

8/10.

What a movie! Tom Cruise and the rest of the cast deliver a movie with everything. Interesting story, strong acting, and edge of your seat stunt scenes that you expect from Cruise. Sixty two year old Cruise still runs fast if he is in his 30s haha.

A great movie to tie in all previous films of the 32 year Mission Impossible franchise.

If you get a chance to watch a movie at the Landmark Cinema in New West, I highly recommend that theatre.

Full reclining wide seats in the theatre. Table for snack, storage area for stuff, and a coat hook for each seat. A comfortable theatre for sure.

Saw MI: Final Reckoning at the Coquitlam IMAX, man, the stunts and action was awesome. I can't believe that Cruise is 62 and still doing all this shit.

Plot was veering off into fantasy land but that's not what we watch it for. Good callbacks to basically every other MI movie in the franchise.

8/10

Did NOT watch the trailer so i truly enjoyed this.

Small time production (11 M grossing 28 M) and director who did (Paranormal Activity 2,3,4,5; Scream 7 etc) did a great job keeping the suspense alive.

synopsis - girl goes on date, and on her phone, she gets these Drop messages to kill her date.

It was really good cause you had to sit on the edge of you seat figuring out what / who / when and how it all ends. Yes it's a hollywood movie but it was good. NO crazy CGI; just some cringe moments when you're trying to figure out how the story plays out.

Would recommend.

Yeah I also watched MI8 in IMAX and it was amazing. Agreed that the plot was often a bit ridiculous, but we're there to see the mind blowing action/stunts. The submarine sequence was totally immersive, especially the scene where he was descending and fired off the flares.

Favourite character? Tie between the submarine captain and the outpost caretaker's wife.
